Last night, my brother and 2 friends went fishing at a lake by our house, each caught a lake record. :rock

One caught a 30.5'' Carp, the other a 14.5'' Crappie and the last one caught a 13'' Shad

Can you belive it, a 13'' bait fish?! In a fresh water lake. :lol We were using the 13'' Shad's relatives to catch him too. :rofl

Gonna post the pics up later, anyone else got any good fishing stories?

Way back when I was a kid my dad and I went fishing. Nothing was biting, and we were trying everything in our tackle boxes with no luck. Finaly as a joke I put on a kitchen sink lure I had gotten as a gag gift from my mom at Christmas. Tossed that sink over the side and within a couple of minutes had a 6 pound walleye in the boat :D Kept using it and caught 2 more smaller walleyes in the next 40 minutes.

Dad was pissed because he didn't have his kitchen sink lure in his box.

Had a buddy once that was the 'great outdoorsman' type.  Fishing has never really been my thing but he wanted to go so what the heck?  He spent a lot of time getting in just the right spot at a stock tank and selecting just the right lure and started fishing for black bass.  I drank a couple of beers while he was casting and put a worm on a hook and cast, badly, only landing about 3 ft out in the water.  We both laughed when WHAM a freaking 2 or 3 lb black bass grabbed the worm, sunk the hook, and did everything but jump into the net.  Of course I let him loose but apparently he went and talked to his buddies because my friend didn't catch anything in that tank for about a year.  He never lived it down either.

You can't catch shad with a hook.  You can however, catch their predatory cousin the herring.  I am sure that is what you caught, I have caught a bunch of herring in the Ohio River on rooster tails.

Actually, they caught it with a cast net (just found out). Still, it's really cool, they're taking it to get the lake record.

It's probably not eligible to be a record holding fish since they didn't actually catch it.

Yea, who knows... They could just stick a hook in its mouth... :D (you never saw ANYTHING :D)

I'm trying to get pics but the damn camera isn't working, I'll get some from other times fishing.
