You can't catch shad with a hook.  You can however, catch their predatory cousin the herring.  I am sure that is what you caught, I have caught a bunch of herring in the Ohio River on rooster tails.

then you have to cut down the mightiest tree in the forest :D

What is a kitchen sink lure...one that is actually shaped like a kitchen sink?

Yeah it was about 2, 2.5 inches long and looked like a kitchen sink, had 2 trebble hooks. Was one of those novelty gag gifts that mom found in some catalog so she got 2 of them for me and my dad. The card said something like, when you've tried everything BUT the kitchen sink, or something along those lines.

Was kinda funny when that thing was the only lure we had in the boat that was catching fish. Dad kept his hanging on the peg board in the garage with a bunch of other goofy lures he had, but I was like 8 years old so of course mine went in my tackle box. I'll have to ask my mom if she can find, scan and e-mail me the picture of me holding that big walleye with that lure in it's mouth. I know it's in one of her scrapbooks some place.

You can't catch shad with a hookcan how.

I have caught threadfin shad on numerous occasion on crappie jigs.
They say it is rare, but it doesn`t seem to be.

Shad are planktonic feeders.  Herring are piscivorous.

What happens when you hook a 30lb King Salmon on 17lb test line, in water that only warms to 55% at the surafce, and have a wife on the boat whos neve fished before. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/z1D_qUTumkg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/z1D_qUTumkg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

All were 10, 11, and 12'' fish.

I think one in the very middle was a Lake Record my brother caught.

Depending on where you are fishing, 30 lbs for a King Salmon might not be that big. ;)

I caught bigger in the ocean. The N/W, and Alaska, is where the real chinooks are caught.

But...I'll make do with the local variety. "Hmmm maybe I'll barbecue some coho tonight". :aok

We're deep frying up some Crappie tonight. I swear, Crappie is the best fish EVER! I love it more than Bass or Catfish. (I usually only eat the fish I catch)
