Squad Tools

Squads are an important part of the community and the game.  Here are some things I would like to see to help squads.  Maybe there are some good work arounds, or something I have not found yet, so anyone please comment (like i need to ask   :D ).

Transfer of CO to another member- This has been talked about before so I won't say much.

Squad Channel Invite- To be able to temporary invite someone to use your squad channel.  The CAF, like some other squads, has a recruit period.  I would like to have them see use the channel without formal inviting them into the squad.  A lot of communication happens on the squad channel, and the recruit misses a lot, even if another channel is used.

Briefing Room - I would be nice to have a seperate text area to give a mission brief that is not cluttered with normal traffic

Mission Accept - Have a way to accept or not accept players into the mission and briefing.  We have planned missions on squad night and it would be good to use this to accept only squad members (or other non squad members joining the mission) into the briefing and mission.

Quick Way Points- A way to put quick way points on the map.  With the changing fields, maps and other conditions, it is not possible to pick launch fields and targets far in advance of the mission.

Thanks,

Agreed.

While this would be nice, the limited resources that HTC has, I would rather see the time spent on another aspect of the game.  Do what we do, if someone wants a try out with VMF-323, we have a specific channel that everyone in the squad is required to have tuned when online.

You currently have two text areas, your squad channel 4 (red text) and if you create a mission for your squad, channel 5 is a "Mission text" only.

Absolutely agree, this would be easy to implement with a simple toggle for either password protected mission, or non-password protected.

Not quite sure what you mean, but to me, waypoints are bothersome, and with a constantly flowing battle field, almost useless by the time the mission launches, MANY times I've changed the target field within 10 min of posting a mission due to the fast, fluid, constantly changing battle field environment.  Currently, if I do use WP's, I simply use them for the first flight only (right mouse buttom click in mission under "Way points").  Most of the time I simply state the mission goal within the title of the mission, or each flight (text area provided), and ask those in the mission to form up on me.  When you use canned missions like myself, you'll find adding Waypoints really bothersome, escpecially when after you finish putting them in, and find out that the field you intended to launch from is now closed.   ;) The idea of a successful mission is to be fast, have everyone in your squad know what their job is (the reason I invented the concept called "Lifetime Targets, a mainstay in VMF-323), and min. discussion in the text buffer.  Our text buffer rarely has anything in it while in flight or on the ground, other than general harassment of each other, or little reminders like "Bombs hot", "Bogie, 10clk" or important real time messages.

Thanks Ripsnort.

I will have to work with the mission editor and way points bit more.  I agree that briefings need to be short and the plan needs to be given quickly and easily.  I have used way points as a general direction.  Many times the group leader may need to deviate from the planned route.  Waypoints can quickly tell the picture and reduce written instruction.

I agree, if waypoints are added, they need to be added quick before the mission.

Sounds interesting    :) We have people assigned to flights, each flight are generally assigned the same type assignments.

Thanks for the tips on the other items.
