This skin represents Spitfire Mk Vc (Trop) MA366, sent to Australia in August 1943 and assigned serial A58-236. As of 1944 it was coded QY-G ('Junior'), serving with 452 Sqn RAAF based at Sattler Strip near Darwin, NT. Usual aircraft of P/O Beaton.
When researching RAAF paint schemes, contradictions abound (I thought early RAF schemes were confusing...). What I thought would be a quick job turned into a real headache. Regardless of 'standard' RAAF colour schemes, many variations were found in the field due to partial repaints and colour substitutions. I have differing references for this aircraft (including two pics kindly provided by lyric1 from a long out of print book - Thanks lyric1!).
Upper surfaces on delivery would have been RAF Dark Green and Dark Earth in the 'A' Scheme, with under surfaces in Azure Blue. These colours could have been repainted in RAAF colours of Foliage Green and Earth Brown (like my original version, pics here
http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,243393.0.html) over RAAF Sky Blue. Also, RAAF Sky Blue would have been used to paint the spinner, codes and a fuselage ID band similar to the style used in RAF Fighter Command. Photo evidence doesn't show any fuse band and the spinner still appears to be Night. I decided to stick with the RAF colours with proper RAAF nationality and ID markings added.
