« on: August 07, 2008, 10:51:18 PM »
Because im ignorant on this. No clue what the contrast ratio or what ms response time is .. I only know what the max resolution is :P (and i play usually on 1024 or 1600 res)

I only play AH, EVE and WW2OL on this machine ...

i'm looking for a 22" or a 24" if its under $400

What would you suggest Skuzzy?

I found this thread yesterday:  http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=2049206&enterthread=y

...While doing some monitor research for another thread.  Scroll down to the recommendations part if you don't feel like reading the whole thing.  Seems like the author knows what he's talking about.

Go to newegg.com and under the monitors section there's a learning center that will answer a lot of your basic questions.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

NewEgg and Tiger Direct are running some great specials every week or so, usually 50 to 75 buck off.  But be careful, some are better than others.  BaldEagl and I have similar monitors, both are quite good, mine is the Samsung 226BW w/2ms response and dc contrast of 3000.  I saw one on sale the other day with a 15,000 contrast ratio, but wonder how they fabricated that #.

Easy, you have the person that designs the box/manual to say "15,000:1" :p

Im drooling over this one.. the size OH! the size!!

but the tech stats i have no clue. I know 3ms response time is great and the resolution is good..

but the dot pitch, contrast ratio and brightness stats I just dont know if its good or not, nothing I can read tells me what numbers are 'good' and which are 'bad' (unlike with the response time which clearly says lower is best..and 3ms is quite good).

Who makes it?  What model #?  It's a nice size if it fits in your budget.

Price is a wee bit over budget but for the size and considering I change monitors once every 8 years.. its not so bad. :)

the tech stats still need clarification.. i really dont want to buy this and it end up sucking in my games.

Not the 'greatest' brand IMO.

X2

Try to get something with a brand name, that no name thing probably won't last the 8 years your looking for.  It would be a shame if it only lasted 8 months.

This is the one I got:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005097

I'm very happy with it.  I recommended it to somone else here on the BBs and they liked it too.

That one tops the list in the "HARDCORE GAMING" category in the thread I linked :)

That LG has a 3 year warranty.

You were thinking about that 27"... if you want to go around that size you should consider the Planar PX2611W.  26 inch widescreen.  Its gotten extremely high marks from everyone.
