I think everyone would really like to have some trains, covoys and low-flying transport planes to strafe and shoot at.
I was thinking of a way to implement an AI controlled system for this. With the way the ships are currently done, there might be a way to use it with AI controlled convoys, trains and planes. Of course, there should be some limits and rules to assigning the waypoints. One idea would be that the only selectable waypoints would be the factories and cities.
The AI transports would spawn either from strat objects or from bases. For example, airfields would have transport planes, V-bases trains/trucks and ports would have ship convoys. A new convoy would start after the previous has reached the end or been destroyed. Maybe with a 10min re-spawn delay, just like with the fleets now.
The transports should be essential to the country asset/strat rebuilding times. For example, if the city/hq/factory is down, its rebuild time would increase in case the transports dont get through. Also, the players would have to pay attention to which factory is most damaged and send more transports there, so that it would be rebuilt faster.
Of course, players themselves would have to provide cover for the AI transports. The enemy in turn would of course try to intercept.
The AI transports would not have any icons, just a friendly-only marker on the map, just like the Task Groups have now. Therefore the enemies would have to really look for them.
