Resupply
« on: August 08, 2008, 01:44:42 PM »
Drive for ten minutes to resupply a city and you get 0 perks? Does resupplying a city work?

EDIT: Tried the same thing with a goon and got the same result. City is at 26% and cant be resupplied?

Cities can not be supplied.  Cities do not even have trains or turks to resupply them.  They are strickly "on the clock" as to when they regenerate.

Cities can be resupplied, and usually you do get some nice perks for that. Been there, done that. (Last time shortly after my name change to get a few bomber perks for Ar234)

From AH help pages: "*  Each drop of convoy or train supplies on damaged city targets reduces the 3 hour downtime by 30 minutes.  Each drop of player supplies reduces the downtime by 15 minutes."

Like I said I made two runs (GV and Goon) and it gave no perks. Maybe theres a bug or a bad script or something?

Lusche,

Congratulations on becoming a trainer but you are going to have to realize the Help Section is not always accurate or up to date.  Build a map, or just fly over a city off-line, and you will see that cities do not have convoys or trains running to them.  If cities do not have convoys or trains to resupply them, then how is the 3 hour downtime reduced by 30 minutes if it is not by the clock?

It is up to you “trainers” and HTC to decide if the bug is not getting perks for resupply of damaged cites, or the bug is not having convoys or trains running to the cities.  But let’s try and keep the misinformation out of the Help and Support Forums.  Thanks.

As far as I've noticed, only things that have an associated factory can be resupplied (as in, there isn't a Hangar Factory," so the field hangers are unaffected by supplies). A city is the "factory" for other factories and the HQ. Since there is no higher-up than the city, a city cannot be resupplied.

Note that cities and towns are two separate things. A city is a factory object that is represented by a C on the map. A town is an object that contains the maproom for a field or base. The buildings themselves cannot be resupplied, but the AA guns can.

I have come to realize that such things may happen, but as it's the official HTC statement on how things work I see no wrong in linking to that official material unless someone has proved any actual error's in there. So when there's something wrong in there, wouldn't it more appropriate to "blame" HTC to spreading "misinformation" ?

And as you seem had known about that very info on HTC help page was wrong, you surely did try to get that corrected, to prevent spreading of misinformation...didn't you? ;)

Back on topic. I did a thorough test this evening to see why I did get perks, some others did too but others again did not. I used the  MW arena, for the strat system doesn't really work in offline or 8-player mode.
I drove a T34 to a city (boring 30 minutes), then killed some buildings and acks, switched sides and started running goons for another extraordinary exciting 90mins

The result was a kind of "yes-but"

Yes, you can bring supplies to a City, you can get perks for it, and they are not bogus.
But, and there was Machnix right and I was wrong, you can't supply the City buildings or reduce their downtime in any way, contrary to the official HTC info. What you actually can resupply are the ack guns. Once the ack guns were all back up, I stopped receiving any more perks.
To be sure, I continued my runs, only to see that after the calculated time the city buildings were still down and continued to stay down for a total of 3H's

Yes, the strat system went out the window fast in 1.08.  Further, the idea of multiple goon runs to re-up a city intrigues me.  After experimenting, I noted the first to drop on the city gets some points.  Drops 2 thru 9 got nothing.  Zero, zip, nada.  Why?

This quote was taken from a discussion that evolved into talking about allowing a C-47 the ability to resupply the HQ in a few minutes that took heavy bombers an hour to take down.  The link to the full discussion is here:
http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,25640.15.html

The point is that back in 2001 people knew the cities could not be resupplied.  There was no official response to LePaul’s “Why?” so it is not possible to know whether the Help is out of date or there is a bug in the city resupply system.  LePaul was “hoping HTC will chime in and clarify the strat situation” but they have not.   Therefore, for the past 7 years, people have just assumed that not being able to resupply the cities was the way it is suppose to be and the Help section was out of date.  This has been “common knowledge” for some time and I would think that HTC has had other priorities then either fixing the Strat System or updating the Help section as the reason nothing has been done in this area.

Back on topic.  Are we suppose to be able to resupply the cities the way the Help section describes or dose the Help section need updating?

Edit:
Lushe,
Thanks for actually taking the time to try it rather then just posting a “been there, done that, go read the Help section” comment.

A lot of stuff is incorrect on this page from downtimes to amounts of ordinance required.
http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/levelbombing/levelbombing.htm
I think it would be well in HTC's interest to keep these pages upto date. After all its the first help the "fresh blood" is gonna get.....until they learn about the BBS and Trainer Corps.

HTC seems to realize that identifying game changes, and then finding and updating every relevent change in the help files in a timely manner is a daunting task, and has provided a tool for the community to do it on their own if they wish (AHWiki).

Anything on trainers.hitechcreations.com has been delegated to the Trainers and is not updated by HTC.  We are able to update information there much more frequently than HTC can in the help files.  Our door is open and the email address is trainers at flyaceshigh dot com.  If you find something out of date or in error, all it takes is an email to bring it to our attention.

I am curious now though when you say amounts of ordnance being incorrect.  I have the actual object hardnesses, and the actual max damage value for most of the bombs, rockets, and guns.  HTC elected to express in that table the bomb value and quantity whos weight will destroy the target 100% of the time with a margin of error added on.  We adopted and updated their format.

For instance it says "3  1,000 lb" (3,000 lbs of bombs)to destroy a fighter hanger.
The actual hardness is 2.7812 x 1000 lb bomb.
I can also use 5 x 500lbs (2,500lbs of bombs) bombs = 2.840x1000lbs bomb = dead hanger
or 9 x 250lbs (2,250lbs of bombs) bombs = 2.835x1000lbs bomb = dead hanger
or 2 x 1,000 lbs and 5 x 5" HVAR = 2.7815x1000lbs bomb = dead hanger
There are more combinations, but listing all of that information does not fit well into an "at a glance" table.

Thanks Murdr, your explanations did explain some of the inconsistencies I had observed.
I should apologize really for so readily criticizing the AHhelp after had sent so many newbees in game to it :o and further more admit to my ignorance that I didnt even know of the existence of the trainers help page.
 :o :o :o
However I would like to ask that wasn't the CV hardness increased to 12K lbs recently ? Also aren't the downtimes for the ammo, troops and fuel only 45mins instead of 2 hrs?
These above are a combination of first hand experience and observations.....any clarification is greatly appreciated.
Thanks! :salute

The 2h your're speaking of is the absolute maximum downtime. That only happens when you cut the field of the supply lines, for example when the zone base was captured.
Without routine convoys and any player supply runs the facilities will stay down that long, with a fully working supply system they will back up in 45mins.

CV hardness is still at 8k, I did several test runs not long ago after this question came up again: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,239305.msg2900783/topicseen.html#msg2900783
