Walter Krupinski was one of the Luftwaffe's well scoring aces with a total of 197 kills, mostly in the 109 but some in the 262 with JV44. He is most well known, perhaps, with his involvement in 9./JG52, winging up with and mentoring a little known Luftwaffe ace named Erich Hartmann. He held leadership positions outside of JG52, also, as the commander of 1 Staffel JG5, II/JG11 (w00t), and III/JG26 before being assigned to the 262 in JV44.

This profile must have been right before he transferred to 9./JG52 and his (in)famous crash-landing that would introduce him to his future wingman and high scoring ace, Erich Hartmann. Wiki says his kill tally would have stood around 50 at this time, but I have no actual biographies of 'Graf Punski'

I still havent started on the under wings because of my horrible work ethics.

Cheers for the effort, new skins are always welcome with me.

I hope you don't mind me critiquing your work but I would hope for the same criticisms of my own work in order for it to be the best it could be.

A few things (in my opinion) that may require attention.

- Your upper-wing panel lines are too sharp, try dropping the opacity a little.

- Upper wing rivets are not visible enough (I can't seem to make them out at all)

- Too much dirt/mud on the left wing walk-way. It extends too far over the wing, in my opinion.

- Cowling latches are missing (Perhaps you're not up to these yet?)

- Control surface ribbing is missing... needs some detail.

Look forward to flying it!

Will do.

Havent gotten to that yet. Had to start the panel lines over because of a brain fart on my first 109

Ill see how it looks turned down

Doh!

Havent gotten to that yet. I've been rather lazy lately and havent been working on skins much.

Look forward to flying it!

I wasnt really thinking to hard about the detailing on the top when I was taking the SS's... it does look pretty bad w/o the latches :rofl Looking again, the paneling is far from finished...

BTW, Ive got some questions.
First... were the ailerons canvas covered? On most skins they appeared to be. Im not asking so much for the shadowing, but for the chipping effect on the ailerons. Oh, and the square panel thing near the Iron Cross on the left side... seems to be a compartment for a first aid kit? I dont know, honestly. I just like to know how this kinda little stuff works, its interesting. Im just weird like that :lol

I was under the impression that the F model was the last to have fabric ailerons but I am in no way sure of that.

The fuselage hatches were for radio access and for the first-aid kit, as you said.

An interesting side note, Erich Hartmann smuggled his crew chief out of a forward base that was being over-run in the fuselage cavity of his 109. He removed the radio and the crew chief climbed in. IIRC they actually got two people in there and escaped safely.

The fun part is just about finished... Im going to have to start the rest of the panel lines and rivets soon. As a plus, now I have a template! (it just so happens that the G2 and G6 arent just similar, they are identical save the bulges... so I have two plane templates now, really)

The 'fun part' for me is the weathering, as you can probably tell.

Photobucket must compress the pictures really badly, those look like crap. I need to start doing it myself I guess...

It was only my second skin, so I can't really blame myself... but MAN was this a POS.
This is the state it was in when I found it in my skins folder...

I didn't even bother trying to 'improve' upon the skin, I just started over.

More pics tomorrow, 10 min.s until FSO

Actually that first one doesn't look too bad!

It was just that over-done weathering that brought it down  :) ;)

A few nice little detail touches like the cowling flair 3d work and stuff. Looking good mate.
