Simulating Damage of Your Own Aircraft
« on: August 08, 2008, 11:27:21 PM »
I looked through quite a few pages and couldn't find anything on this.

Why not have a list of all the things that could be damaged on your own plane and choose to damage one, or a
few of them, so you can practice flying without a wing or something? I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist already,
and having it on the Training mode or offline practice mode would really help you when you're in the actual
arenas, in a situation that you can't really practice for offline, again and again, until you have gotten in right.
It could also make some interesting fights, someone flying around with no wing taking out a whole lot of people
before they can no longer hold on.

Having lost many chunks of my aircraft I can tell you the chance of taking out people with half a wing is slim. It is an adventure though learning how to re-fly with half a wing depending on what aircraft it is.

A novel idea and at first glance a reasonable one. I'll say no to this however. Last thing people should be is "trained" to fly with 1 wing missing or something like that. Would ruin the whole fun/adventure/exciting portion of when it actually does happen in a fight.
We can already simulate flying and landing with no gears/flaps/engines/control surfaces etc. Leave the wings alone...

Neat idea, but I think the objective of the TA is to teach people how to shoot others down, not to get shot down.

You could always go up with a squaddie or two in the DA and have one shoot parts off your plane and practice that way :aok

If I remember correctly, there used to be a dot command for this. Ive seen it requested before, and I think it would be a good idea.

The dot command for damaging certain pieces of a plane was .hurtme #, but that was back in WarBirds. It seems to either never have been in Aces High or was phased out...I requested it back a long while ago.

It was confusing, though, as there was a number assigned to each part that sometimes varied between planes...

sounds good idea to me. I've scored a few kills in a 1/2 wing spitfires before . One time i was 1/2 wing gone engine oil gone , coolant leak and fuel leak. landed back at base with 3 kills.  al kills were scored after the damage was done :)

My favorite are the vulchers that take off half my wing, only to get shot in the bellybutton when I pull the nose up! :D

Only reason I'd say no is because I'd rather see them take the time to program Combat Tour and Improve/New aircraft! :rock

...Plus, you can get lots of practice by dog fighting and getting shot up!
I'm Sector95 in-game! :-D
