A6M7 Zero?
« on: August 09, 2008, 03:29:43 AM »
What was it? I read up on it a little bit, and it sounds like it's a bit faster and stronger. I think it had 2 7.92mm and 2 12.7 (Maybe 2 12.7 and 2 20mms) :aok

It was actually slower, if you can believe that, stronger... yes due to the fact that they had been improving armor on the Zero's since the A6M5 but this one of the reasons it was slower too. I'm skeptical on the performance data I found since after the A6M5 series everything seems to get hazy due to the chaos in Japan during the end of the war but until someone more knowledgeable comes by it's food for thought anyways. Also on a last note I'm not really sure how many A6M7s were made, production began in May of 1945 and I know production figures for 1945 were [April 1945 to Aug 1945 - Mitsubishi 119 - Nakajima 885] so I don't think it would be outrageous to think a few hundred may have been made.

Engine:
1x Nakajima NK1F Sakae 31b radial rated for 1,130 hp (Although from what I've read the water-methanol injection didn't work right).

Speed:
Top Speed 20,997ft - 338
Sea Level - 288
1,000m(4,921ft) - 301
3,000m(9,843ft) - 314
6,000m(19,685ft) - 336

Climb Rate:
To 1000m - 1:23min
To 3000m - 3:52min
To 6000m - 7:45min

Ceiling:
10,190 m(33,400 ft)

Fuel:
610 liter internal

Weight:
6,945lb (loaded)

Armament:
1x Type 3 13.2mm machine guns with 230rpg in cowl
2x Type 3 13.2mm machine guns with 240rpg in wings
2x Type 99 Model 2 20mm cannon with 125rpg in wings

Ordnance:
2x 110 lb (50 kg) bombs or 8x 22 lb (10 kg) A2A rockets or 2x 238 lb (108 kg) drop tanks under wings
1x 550 lb (250 kg) or 1x 1103 lb (500 kg) bomb under fuselage (I believe a 1,100 lb (500 kg) could be carried as well).
