How about bullet strikes being visible to all
« on: July 28, 2001, 06:17:00 PM »
I mean I should be able to see the strikes if I am within visual range, reguardless of who is firing. It seems that this would only add to the realism effect.

Also I know others have mentioned this idea, but why not let the AC remain after a pilot kill and also the wreckage remain on the ground for a while?

Probably not, unless there was a fire and it was hot enough to cook them off (Granting that the bombs stayed near the wreckage). Until they are dropped the fuzes are safed, only after they are dropped and the arming wire pulls through does the vane spin enough to line up the explosive train. Minol (used in WW2) and later tritanol were extremely stable explosives fillers.

Yes.  anyone within range should be able to see bullit strikes.

Exterior sounds are a must as well.

And a whole slew of other things.

It might adversely affect your gunnery though, if several people are hitting the target you wouldn't know if it were your rounds connecting or someone elses and so you wouldn't know if you were on target.

Were there any instances of planes *not* having tracers?

I can imagine in a furball where all can see strikes, and all can elect not to use tracers that your gunnery would go to hell...

sure there where pilots that didn't use tracers.
i think it was McCambell(SP?) that insisted that his squad not use tracers because it only gave there prescence away when they bounced the japanesse.

i would like to be able to see other peoples hits as well
