Damage model ideas and thoughts
« on: September 12, 2000, 04:24:00 AM »
I've been thinking to post this already long time ago, but haven't done, so... I'll do it now.

Currently we have damage from guns and damage list shows either green or red, but you don't have ANY idea where enemy has hit your plane unless you've lost some parts (showing red).
I have also other thoughts to this..

I'll make it easy and list from simplier to more complex, in a three levels.

1st level:

When enemy hits some part of your plane so that it is halfway being ripped off, damage list turns to show yellow, indicating that part is damaged (yellow) but not gone (red)

Let's take little example from real life; If enemy punches couple holes on your wing with 20mm, I am sure you can see scraping holes on your wing.
In AH, you have no idea at all how badly you have damaged from enemy fire that has not ripped off parts from you. (wing would be just clean, even if it would be ready to rip off after small hit)

2nd level:

1st one was simplier, but in 2nd level addition would be effect to your plane if some part has damaged (yellow).
If you have some minor damages in your engine, it would still run, but would not give all that power it would without damage. (currently engine either works or doesn't)
When aileron would get damaged, it wouldn't give it's full benefit, but it wouldn't either be totally gone, just have less control effect.
etc. etc.

3rd level:
As 2nd, this would also include previous changes, but next addition would be damages from high G forces or overspeeding.

ie. in Spitfire wingtips gets damaged under high G forces; blends, this would be counted as damage.
If you still do more those very high G force maneuvers, your wing could probably rip off easier than it would when undamaged.

Parts that have damaged under enemy fire, would also suffer from this weakening and less G forces could rip your wingtip off if its damaged.

Thats it, this is what I think would be a good improvement in Aces high.
Do anyone have more opinions?
