Sweet system for under $700
« on: August 15, 2008, 10:28:29 AM »
I have the day off and was just playing around.  I put this together on newegg.  It's under $700 and would blow AH away for those thinking of building.  Adding speakers and a 22" widescreen LCD monitor still comes in under $1000:

Shipping?

Largely off-set by mail-in rebates.

[EDIT]  I lied.  Shipping adds $70.

Got the bug there Baldegle.  :D

I have an e8400 laying around and some 1066 memory. I'm trying to resist.

I didn't send it back, instead I built a new machine with a MSI Neo2 p45 mb and gave my son the amd duo core 6000+ machine. I also bought a new antec 900 case (Cause you guys seem to be able to talk me into anything). My brother always said I'm easy to convince.

Hllbly, I would check out that MSI Neo 2 board. Seems to be very good.

I would not recommend ATI. Many problems from installs, heat, factory bios settings, drivers and both gpus working on 4870 x 2(I returned mine). They are the best performing cards out/ AH does not need a 2g card/ Under the 4870 ATI and Nvidea has some real good cards for about $100-$130 (9800 GT). Check ATI/Nvidea cards out online. Let the forum know how much you want to spend and I am sure you will get great recommendations.

Check these forums out. They are directly from AMD gaming forum and you can be the judge. Remember these forum post only go back maybe a week. When I bout my 2 different ATI cards they had 10-15 new problem posts a day when the cards came out (3800 series and 4800 series)

http://forums.amd.com/game/categories.cfm?catid=260&forumid=11

here is a direct link to Nvidea on the 9800GT

http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9800gt_us.html

Heres a great deal on 9800GT around $120

http://www.nextag.com/XFX-GeForce-9800-GT-618139274/prices-html

And to be fair to ATI heres a link for 3870- $140

http://www.nextag.com/Radeon-HD-3870-IceQ3-619399490/prices-html

These basically are the second to last series out from both manufacturers and are GREAT CARDS. Both are 512m
