craterd runways
« on: August 17, 2008, 04:14:14 AM »
i ah2 you can crater runways but it dose not disturb the pattern of aircraft lifting up it use to distort the hole proses of take offs and would make 100Ib bombs useful as well as this you should be able to damage air craft carriers flight decks you didn't have to sink a carrier to knock it out of the fight

I don't know if they still do, but they used to do this in warbirds years ago.  Fields would be bombed at the spawn point at either end of the runway and in front of the hangar, this effectively closing the field.  If you spawned in or rolled over crater you would lose your gear.  It was very silly that a single fighter bomber could close an entire field.

i would not be in favour of this, having witnessed what craters can do.

AH used to have collideable craters.  You could also destroy the runway objects.
One thing I don't know why we don't have anymore, is truly rough land.  Back in the old days you would invariably break the gears off pretty much all planes if you went faster than a few dozen mph on the ground.  Even then, the planes would bounce around atrociously.  Now you can just pop your gears and roll around like the countryside was a pool carpet.

Ah yes those were the good ole days. I remember back in AH1, I landed a C205 close to port. Was taxiing back to the pad, being jostled a lot in the cockpit and managed to bounce my tail skywards and prop into the ground. Was not as easy as it is today to drive cross country in a plane.
As for craters. No thanks. Our airfields are pretty much undefended since they removed flak guns anyways.

lemme guess. Can't hit tool shed so you need a bigger target? No, it is already far to easy to shut down an airbase.

Crators, why not but with its limmits, not effective close to runway spawn and not too far too make landing/takeoffs challenging

The real object is to get people into the skys to fight ... remember, it's called "Aces High" ... not "Aces in the Tower".

If I remember correctly, the runway is an object that can be destroyed ... and the arena setting is something like 100,000 lbs of bombs and the regen time is like 1 second.

If you want to close a field down, then take out all the hangers ... but wait, that might be hard to do ... what was I thinking ?

Well?

We in the 173rd upped 15 sets of Lancasters (1000 pounders) and we hit an enemy runway in trail each of us dropping from end to end.  They were still upping.  Go figure!     :huh  We tend to think you cannot destroy a runway.

If the regen time is 1 second ... you would never see it ... I don't believe.

We missed?  REALLY    :rofl

I was wondering why it didnt go down!!!!   That was funny Titanic  :)

You'd have thought we did.  We all thought if you hit it with a lot of ord they would go down.  Guess we'd have to be in a stagered stack and hit it all at the same time.  Hmmm :aok  Good idea.
