Tiger Direct Vs Newegg

Any particular reason to order from one over the other?

Or both pretty reputable?

Go with whatever one doesn't charge you sales tax. If both do or don't, then look at shipping charges or rebates and go with the cheaper one. Both are perfectly fine.

Heard horror stories about TigerDirect's customer support and how hard it is to return items but have never experienced them myself the few times I've used them.  I prefer Newegg because they are located not to far from where I live in LA and usually get the stuff I order the next day with just standard shipping.  So if you live in the Los Angeles area, just use standard shipping.

Tigerdirect always seems much higher. I've ordered from mwave and newegg.

I used to go to Tigerdirect back in the day mainly because they generally shipped out of Chicago and it was 1-2 day UPS.  But then I found Newegg and have used them about 95% of my computer orders, about $3k in 5 years.  I've never had to deal with Tigerdirect customer support before and I have dealt with Newegg (via their chat) do to my credit card company messing something up.  Never had a problem with Newegg in 5 years, Newegg has a lot more stuff too (but Tigerdirect did have some nice unlocked cellphones).  Newegg is generally cheaper and if Tigerdirect advertises a sale, Newegg was at that sale price a long time before them.

Newegg isn't always the cheapest on the internet, but their service, selection, and customer reviews make it worth the extra bucks.  Best site I've ever ordered from, period.

I just compare prices on both. I like the feature on Newegg that shows you the price of shipping. If Tiger has a better price but charges tax, try www.globalcomputer.com It is a sister site with the same products, model numbers, and prices, but located in a different place. I usually use them because of where I live.

I've never ordered from tigerdirect but when I bought the stuff for my new computer I ordered a Saitek ST290 Pro.  I broke (the main fire trigger quit working) within three months.  When i contacted newegg for an RMA they sent me back an e-mail saying either keep it or throw it away.  My new joystick was at my door three days later.

Likewise, my brother ordered RAM for his laptop that didn't work.  The RAM was fine but Toshiba tech support told him it wouldn't work after he got it and tried putting it in.  He got an RMA from newegg explaining the situation and they didn't charge him the restocking fee.

Customer service at newegg rocks!  Worth it even if you pay a few extra $.

Add to that standard 3 day shipping wherever you are.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

One of the cool things you can do is go to Pricewatch.com and look for the component you want. Sometimes NewEgg will have it there cheaper than on their NewEgg website. They will give you the pricewatch.com price.

As someone said about taxes Tigerdirect charges tax for Florida residents so I lean toward Newegg and Mwave. I have seen some really good deals though so I always check there too. Of the big three (Tiger mwave and newegg) Tiger is the most likely to have bad or limited information on products so shop carefully. Newegg has posted reviews so you can judge customer satisfaction on a product. If/when buying complete systems Mwave will assemble and test for you (for additional cost) and I dont the other two will. Right now Office Home/Student is cheaper enough at Tiger to pay for taxes and shipping (for instance). I have gotten things like printers scanners bluray/dvd media for the cost of shipping at Tiger also (VIP offers). Newegg has occasional giveaways (I won a quad core last November and a Geforce 7950 before that from them) and I have been allowed to keep double shipments (has happened twice). I order often enough from all of them.

Pricewatch was god for me 7-8 years ago.  When I found newegg, I never god back.  I have used pricewatch a couple of times since then to find really oddball things that Newegg didn't stock.  Or sometimes I use pricegrabber.com (doesn't work great for computer components).  I bought my GPS and camera via searching on this site.

Both of the last 2 systems I built I did side by side comparisons between mwave and newegg.

Newegg had lower prices on some of their items, usually memory, video card etc.
Mwave had cheaper shipping, and lower prices on other items like HD's, and cases.

By the time I was done, mwave was cheaper by 12 - 20$ mostly in shipping.

Last, as noted above, mwave offers an assemble and build option for motherboard bundles.
Cheapest 9$ insurance policy to ensure everything is going to work that you could ever ask for.
Plus just knowing that it was assembled correctly and working when it was shipped really gives you confidence.
If there is a problem, you know its something you did, so you can backtrack, reread the mboard manual and figure it out.

I've seen that assemply price before and I still can't believe it. Well worth it.
