Bogey key
« on: May 25, 2001, 04:18:00 PM »
For field/boat-gunners and gunner-pilots, add a key which transmits "bogey 3 oclock" (or whatever the position of the bogey relative to the vessel) using recorded voice files. All you need are:

"bogey", "one" through "twelve", and optionally "hi" or "low".

It'd work just like check 6, although it'd be nice if the f/e could remember targets that have been spotted, or pointed out to you.

First off - I don't like the "Check 6" key.

I don't disagree that some people like it and find it be useful.

But to me it's rather annoying and I'd wish there were an option to turn it off.

Hi Nexus,
If you don't like the check 6 sound just record a wav file of "silence" then save it over the default "check6.wav" file in the sounds directory.

Or just turn the volume down on the check6.wav file (via setup)

The 'bogey call' key would only operate on the same vessel. It wouldn't affect other pilots on other vessels.

Is it the audio component or the fact that people can call 6 at a keypress that you mind?

For a lot of us, the placement of keyboard/joystick/etc just don't lend themselves to calling someone's 6 AND doing anything useful about it.

When I manually 6 people's 6, I know the guy I'm calling is gonna go down. However, hitting one key - I can do that.

I'm usually too engrosed in a fight when I need my own six calling, so I welcome the audio stimuli. But I can understand someone being annoyed by it

Tounge in cheek: Should I take this as a hint not to call your 6 anymore DmdN? =)

Cool thanks for the ideas - I'll blank out the sound file.

Me head's on a swivel and the talk on Vox keeps SA high, the false, late, and no-chit-sherlock calls are what are annoying.
