latest server update
« on: August 18, 2008, 05:41:03 AM »
seems to be buggy - never seen so much warping as since the last server reboot. at one stage yesterday literally half the enemy cons I could see were warping around. I was going to ask a Nik to relog til I realised 4 other red ac were doing the same, other nits saw this too.

Did you run ping plotter and check your connection to the server?

Most people are very quick to blame a "server update" or any other announcement for their troubles (and everyone wonders why HTC doesn't keep us informed :huh). I almost never fly on Sundays, the internet is much more busy which can cause a lot of lag. My ping is in the 45ms range all week, and climbs through the weekend with Sunday being the worst.

checked net stat and it looked fine, besides others I was flying with saw the same ac warping. could be a coincidence I guess, maybe latency issues for a whole ISP (bad storms in the US yesterday?)

Since the server update, heres what I saw on Sunday. The first pic is where the ship is, which is in land, that has no task group direction, the second, is the task group direction, but no task group:

I will add that I have noticed some People! (Well known names).  That I had in my sights, got ready to pull the trigger and poof they were gone!  Looked back and they were 400 of my six.  This is frustrating!

Insinuating that people are cheating on the BBS is foolish at best.  It is known that poor connectivity on your end or, their end, can cause these issues when you pull the trigger, thus increasing the load on the connection and producing lag. It isn't cheating, just the nature of the internet.  Check your ping plot and variance for issues and leave the veiled accusations behind.

I can attest that there has been MUCH more warping lately.  I used to see someone violently warping every couple of months.  Lately I see at least one per day and others around me see the same guy warping too so it's not my connection.

It's not even worth playing around these guys.  Yet another thing slowly driving me from the game.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Inferring a cheating accusation from a genuine post is also foolish :p

Thanks for the support RTHolmes and BaldEagl.  As stated much more warping going on lately.  Some at just the right time.   :salute

As for Ping Plot  that is only good for the instant that you plot it.  As clerick said, you pull the trigger and it changes.  So Ping Plot is only good for Major issues with net.   As for keeping an eye on the Variance, this would be hard to do in a furball, clipboard up and spread out!  Instant death.
