Texas schools' arming Teachers.
« on: August 19, 2008, 10:48:16 AM »
Here's a USA today link on the story:http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2008-08-15-gun-toting-teachers_N.htm?csp=34

Reading up on it, It looks' like all of the school and mall shootings' have finally come to a head. To tell you the truth, I'm mildly suprised that they did this.

Dont have a problem with this as long as they are trained and dont leave the guns in their desks.

What they need to do is list the ban on guns at school all together..

Way to go Texas!  That's exactly what all schools need to do to better protect their students.

I'm pretty sure that just making it known that teachers are allowed to concealed carry will ensure that this school never becomes a target.

Why am I not surprised that it's Texas?

On a serious note tough, its a sad day when you have to start arming your teachers. No matter if its needed or not.

What most of you probably didn't notice is this entire West Texas school district has 110 students. That's K - 12.
It's not like arming teachers in Dallas or Houston where there may actually be a threat of school violence.

Vince Young is gone.  They'll attempt to arm anything, right now.

you people are looking at it from the wrong angle, you say they are arming teachers, i say they are allowing teachers with a concealed carry permit to carry their guns in school.

i think if you have a ccp you should be able to carry a gun any where you want to.

I don't know about that...

I'm supportive of the armed (if trained) teachers idea.  I'd like my kids to have a realistic measure of protection from the occasional nutcase.

IMO, if a teacher isn't responsible enough to handle an inanimate tool in a safe manner, he/she has no business being responsible for the temporary care of my children.

I DO NOT support an altogether lift on the firearm ban at schools.  Untrained teachers have no business carrying, and neither do I think it should be OK for kids to bring them there.

gun crimes and wanton gun violence is natural in a 'gun free zone'. Add the random thought to the would be-perp's mind; "hey, somebody here could be armed, and shoot back..." and the perp will likely wander off looking for a safer spot to kill folks. Like maybe a PETA board meeting.

What they need to do is weed out the riff raff and spend their time teaching those that want to learn.

We always had guns at my school when i was a kid.  Hunting could have been a School sport,  Between teachers bring in new rifles to show off to kids leaving guns in the backseet or trunk of the car.  We never had a shortage.

I am not sure if we should go back to that or not.  But anyone with a ccw should be able to carry.
