Consider it this way Chalenge. In WWII you could open the canopy and stick out your hand to slow down the plane. Since you can't do that here our pilots turn off the engine giving the same effect as sticking your arm out the canopy. :D

My grandad would stick his schlong out the window  :rofl

i never turn off my engine just because i feel that throttle is much better than turning off engine. Ive fought many people who think they may force an overshoot, and i just chop throttle and buzz em.

He tried this again tonight. Four turns with me right behind his D9. He fired up only to get hit twice in the head!  :D I double stroked alt-r and turned the camera off at the beginning of the engagement.

I have just done some testing myself in the TA and found that engine on versus engine off makes no difference at all in deceleration rates from 300 to 200 MPH. Deceleration times are identical for aircraft whose props can windmill.

I believe Widewing has also proven this a ways back.

FWIW - Spit 16 took 14 seconds to decelerate from 300-200 for both engine on and off conditions at 200ft. P47-D40 took 19 seconds to decelerate from 300-200 for both engine on and off conditions at 200ft.

What does it do to the turn radius? Im not an expert at using the AHfilm but it should be possible to setup a camera to measure distances or something. I had figured out deceleration doesnt really matter anyway because there just isnt enough difference in drag between a running engine and one thats not. I guess someone could go to the trouble to map pitch/rpm changes with throttle and a 'e' toggle but really why bother if theres no advantage?

Im still going to kill them first just like finding an La7 in a furball 'picking.'  :D

Never understood what the concern was over this, from what I can gather it doesn't actually confer any advantage in a fight.

.... this makes me wanna  :rofl  :rofl  :lol

seriously.. i want yall to test this. for yall's self seeing as you dont believe in it. and even after i say iv been flying since airwarrior yall wont believe me. do this.

Get in a F4U model. anyone one you want. Climb up to 5k. Dive down then pull up and keep throttle foward hole time. and then when you reach stall point go to the stall then with throttle full try to get out of it.
NOW !. do the same thing but when you go into the stall cut your engine off. and try to get out of it.

just see what it does for yourself.

I got the same results just chopping throttle eagle, I shutting off the engine didn't seem to do anything, that I noticed at least.
