Cloud/haze layers in AH?
« on: August 12, 2001, 01:39:00 PM »
Ok ok, i've wandered the online flight sims abit over the past few months, and I have seen some things I like, which I feel would work good in AH.  ww2ol, and wb3, both have haze/cloud layers.  I have a hard time calling them cloud layers because they are basically 2 dimensional.  These layers, in wb3 at least, do a good job of obscuring targets, and also keeping the altitude in the arena DOWN.  The layers do not offer 100% coverage.  I haven't been able to tell if there is any pattern to them, but there are holes and they do seem to move.  The layer also does not maintain a consistent opacity.

Now I am sure HT and crew can come up with an even better variation on this theme.

The altitude war, and lack of an early war planeset (had to slip that in) are my 2 biggest gripes with AH.  Perhaps 1.09 can address both these issues +)  Whaddaya Say HT? +)

Skurj,

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "the altitude war"?

I think I know what you're talking about, but I'd like to be sure and I'm interested in your opinion on it.

I agree,  B17 2 also has the same type clouds.  There are sometimes holes in the clouds, and it makes high alt bombing interesting when the target apears and disapers as these openings move.

Ok Karnak, alot of the time the "war" does turn into a furball at 10ft above the deck.

30k 17's, 30k 51's on CAP missions, perfect vision from 40kft to 0 ft...

The layers would either cause the buffs to come down, or a form of carpet bombing would be developed.
The 30k 51's would get bored not being able to see their targets 15k below them, so they too would come down.

I fly the Jug mostly, so perhaps I am biased +) but I do not like getting caught low.  Cloud layers if implemented well, would add a whole new dimension to the game.  Any aircraft on the other side of the layer, while u maybe able to vaguely make out its "dot", would not be represented by an icon.
Fights would possibly find themselves split.  You would find the above the clouds fights, mebbe consisting of the 51's, G10's D9's, P47's etc And below the clouds the TnB'ers twistin the night away.

I personally think it would add a new and interesting element to gameplay.
