Problems with N1K?
« on: September 22, 2000, 05:10:00 AM »
I wonder why I havent seen anything about the N1K on the BBS. Try to do some 1v1 testing eg. against the Spit 9 and tell me what you thinks.

Grinbird,
Then you're gonna love this:

 http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/Forum9/HTML/000814.html

Read it and weep.

For what it is worth, the Japanese aircraft are consistantly under estimated.  If you guys put a little effort into looking up data on them, I think you'd be quite surprized and impressed.

The N1K is a good plane, vastly under-rated in my opinion.  When flying Spit I hate running into N1Ks since they are usually the ones that shoot me down.  Hard to shake a N1K if you aren't flying a good runner like a G10 or P51.

I always try and kill N1K's first while I have the maximum advantage.

I got the first suspicion that there was something wrong the first time I logged on with version 1.04. Because of work I couldent log on MA with 1.04 untill 4-5 days after release. I had never seen so many N1Ks in MA ever before. There was at least 25 contacts around where I was and over 2/3rds of them was N1Ks. Before 1.04 you saw one once in a while, but not very many. Flying a Tiffie I found it very difficult to E-fight against them because they accelerated extremely fast.
Also they didnt seem too bleed E when they did evasives. I have also seen them get in a planes six after have been bounced by a guy with huge E-advantage, it can go up in an Immelman and get in six after merge pretty quick.
After being puzzled about this for a while I startet flying it in MA. And Whow! - Now I didnt have to fear any plane not even if it had E-advantage. All I had to do was doing evasives untill the opponent had burned some E and from then it was easy, because the N1K turns extremely well. If the guy did some E-conserving moves like eg. a Hi YoYo I would have a pretty good chance to follow him up and nail him. If he tries to dive out I get a good chance to nail him before he gets away, - even if he flys the fast Tiffie, because the N1K accelerates so extremely fast.
But what do I know? If you guys really think this is how it should be, - fine with me!
But I just cant stop wondering why Germany didnt copy it, with a plane like that they would have won WW2 And why should Japan produce Me109s when they had the N1K?
Just wondering.

GrinBird,
Japan never produced Bf109s.  If you're refering to the Ki-61 Hien "Tony", then you should know that it was VERY different from the 109 despite having a license built Daimler Benz engine.  The Ki-61 also predated the N1K2 by over a year and was an Army plane (the IJA and IJN HATED eachother).

The Ki-100 that you see people asking for is simply a Ki-61 redesigned to take a HUGE radial engine.

Germany would never have done that for several reasons, such as the Aryan idiocy and the lack of any successful real cooperation between Germany and Japan (They tried a few times, even joined forces and drove the RN out of the Indian ocean for awhile before the IJA vetoed that effort).

Keep in mind everybody, that if the Japanese aircraft in AH had good fuel (like the USA was initially testing them with and being horrified as to what they were going to do to our F6Fs and F4Us) instead of 80 Octane with pine oil (which is what the Japanese were using and why we have it in AH)they would be CREAMING everything else in the MA.

Tony is, IMO, the best-looking Japanese plane of WW2.

And one of the best looking WW2 planes, period.  Up there with P-51D and Bf-109F and F6F and FW-190A-3

ooooh... I never underrated the N1K2 and always found it a very capable, dangerous plane - but 1.4 put it on top of my "uh-oh"-list...

As a dedicated A8 driver (evaluating the A5 at the moment though) the George is very hard to kill and deadly if ya make a mistake or get too greedy. The new FM reminds me of AW3 where I flew the 109E and never had a problem getting away from any B&Z plane because I always could break off to one side when he made his pass. Like that you were able to negate any E advantage and push your adversary into a defensive move (e.g. running).

N1K2 does the same thing now. Although being a 2 ship element of A8s we were not able to kill a N1K2 in a reasonable amount of time (<S> to Greebo!!!). And moreover the A8 only barely outruns a George... not to mention its deadly cannons with huge ammo-load!!!

Everytime I meet a N1K2 I am in Red Alert status now!!!

i have one scenario to talk about with ya. you tell me if you think it is right.
spit9 and niki co E merge ....spit pulls low G zoom climb ...niki miss judges the lead turn just a little but makes a hard 5+G emmelman ....spit zooms to a stall niki not only climbs to gun range on the spit but out climbs the spit. you think a 5+g emmelman would take some of it's edge off. dont believe me i have the films from both planes. Also ask Suave about it he was in the niki.
