I ask again in case anyone is privy to the facts, with all the ice that's been melting recently, how much has sea level been raised?

I did a brief searchand turned up 10-25cm in last 100 years and this quote from another site

Estimates for the 20th century show that global average sea level rose at a rate of about 1.7 mm per year. Satellite observations available since the early 1990s provide more accurate data with nearly global coverage. This decade-long satellite altimetry data set shows that since 1993, and shows rising at a rate of around 3 mm per year, significantly higher than the average during the previous half century. Global levels are projected to rise during the 21st century at a greater rate than during 1961 to 2003.

If we've already suffered massive melting I don't think the tiny increase resulting harbingers much doom. Heck, it might even be due to the increased population taking cruises of visiting the beach.  ;)

Then explain how it was that natives were living in Florida at the same time Greenland was green.

If global climate change occurs to the extreme (and I think its the worst climatologists saying so) then the air will also hold and retain more water it will rain more frequently and more water will be within the ecological system (you know the natural process of filtering water feeding root systems etc etc). You might even see some natural growth in underground water systems that had previously dried up.

This has all happened before and humans survived it.

Our worse danger comes from China flushing all their waste into the oceans.

Actually most of the reading I have done, states that the northern ice would not cause much of a problems as far as sea levels are concerned. Most of the problem with that is the ecological systems there would fail without the ice and many species would become extinct (but that is a bit off typic isn't it). If there is going to be a dramatic sea level rise, most of the info I have seen says it will come from Antarctica. If I am not mistaken this is due to the fact that most of the Arctic is floating ice excepty for some comparably small land masses, comparing that to Antarctica which is mostly land based ice.

Before the nay sayers start in, it was stated in this same information that even with the current rise in temperature and taking into consideration the rate at which that in increase also goes up. It could take several hundred if several thousands of years for that to melt to a point that would raise the sea levels.

funny I keep telling myself I need to stop reading o'club

I captured this pics last year over Greenland ,the ice is sitting on top of mountains  not in the ocean (or inside the glass).

Hey GHI those are beutiful pics man, awsome view and though that ice is on a mountain definitely not in a glassor overan ocean. That is also not all the ice left in the north either. Greenland has only a small portion of the Arctic polar ice cap.

As seen in the below link which is a view from space.

Those aren't mountains, they're just really tall frozen waves. :lol

This higher temperature may be causing some floating icebergs to melt, but this will not make the oceans rise. Icebergs are large floating chunks of ice. In order to float, the iceberg displaces a volume of water that has a weight equal to that of the iceberg.

This scientist disagrees.

Most of the ice that has melted so far has been ice in the water, so it doesn't displace the sea level. We haven't seen a lot of land bound ice melt yet, that will be the last ice that melts if it does.

Interesting read there Iceman. That even makes sense.

Just remember though that is still as small amount compared to the land bound Antarctic ice, but the article you found there makes perfect sense to me.

OY!!! Ice in ur cup does raise the water level!!! also, we are accelerating global warming, also, the ice melting is also messing up the Atlantic Current (whatever its called)!! That movie "The Day After Tomorrow" is based on an extremely probable situation and might actually happen. :uhoh look up the info, it all around you, Discovery Channel made Planet Green Channel and it tells you alot more than even I knew. And yes,, the ice melting IS raising the water level in the oceans, that's one of the reasons Katrina was so devastating... you remember when a chunk of ice broke off of Antarctica that was the size of Rhode Island right?????? Fresh water introduced into the ocean is also one of the reasons that the Air Currents over America are steadily moving North every year...in Massachusetts we are getting Georgia weather... (and yes i know this cuz my dad had Basic in Georgia)...all you guys need to do is read up...strangely i gotta agree with the guy who started this thread
I am in need of a new epic quote
