I am (personally) not so concerned about water level rising, but for the lack of decent winters during recent years. It sucks walking in rain and slush instead of having snow for ski'ing and natural ice for skating. That was the standard normal winter still a decade or two ago around where I live. :( Seems like one needs to move northwards in the future to have decent winters.

And still some resource hogging, wastefully living people have no decency to worry even slightly about our shared globe. They don't care what they leave to their kids... if they even have any. "There is no such thing as global warming.... if it means I have to change my wasteful ways... or if it cuts my immediate profits" ...  yeah, sure.

I'm all for some warming my heating bill is reducing by 20% two years in a row now. What really scares me is if the predictions of Gulf stream moving are correct - we'll have arctic climate soon. We're at the same level with Alaska. I know I'll ditch this country immediately if the temperature drops even lower than it is now.

That is the scary one. The ice is actually venting the gulf stream "our way". So, I don+t know where it would go, but there it would get madly hotter, while we have a temporary mini ice-age....untill we catch up again.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

A changing or diminished gulf stream could explain past ice ages. It may be a naturally occurring cycle.

AFAIK the ice age is explained with a certain solar-system cycle.
Bear in mind that there are 2 poles and the Gulf stream is in the north.
It's all a bit interesting when you think of that the ocean temp is achieving enough temp to form a Hurricane south of the equador though. Only one known case.....in our days...and it is recent.
Maybe a new "gulf" stream in the birth progress?

Lol Wabbit. I was trying to get somebody (anybody) to observe a few things most people overlook. No one has it yet. GUess it should just pass on...

Scotch Cognac Bourbon are all good even with global warming...

I did notice right away the majority of people never read past the first post....

Huh? Did you read past your original post?

Let's see:

1) You are wrong on the premise: As has been pointed out, your experiment, were it valid, does not debunk Global Warming, only the predicted effects of Global Warming.

2) You are wrong on the logic: As has been pointed out, sea level changes aren't exclusively attributed to pack ice melt. The vast amount of frozen fresh water that is not currently floating in the ocean is expected to contribute to sea levels rising.

3) You are wrong on the science: two people have cited experiments and explanations showing that there is actually a water level rise when floating freshwater melts in salt water.

Three strikes!

(Disclaimer: Just pointing out how wrong, wrong, and wrong you are to clear up the lack of science in your argument. Don't mistake that as me believing that sea level rise will be catastrophic - I don't - or that even if it will, that I think there's anything that the government should do about it from a lawmaking or spending perspective - I don't).

Water added to water means more water.
It is hard to claim that ice is growing and temperature is cooling while SL is still raising....

Not a good question samiam. You missed it too which I expected.

Just to say it another way: Greenland Ice will still be there on the day you leave this earth on the day your children leave and so on and so on. If somehow that were to change then also you must accept that arctic ice would no longer be in place which is something you dont accept. When ice melts it leaves behind 91% of its original volume in the form of water. While it is said that the ice on Greenland is on average 2.2 Km thick it would take considerable time for that to melt with even a five degree temperature shift. Now that you have shown your ultimate superiority in experimentation and calculation both why dont you reveal to us all the time required for all ice on Greenland to melt given an increase of five degrees in global temperature?

I will go ahead and reveal the result to you. It wont melt and worse the considerable fresh water trapped within ice on the Antarctic continent would remain there even if the temperature rose thirtyfive degrees.

I would much rather have global warming then global cooling.
