Should we have more of a selection for plane models?
« on: August 24, 2008, 12:02:52 PM »
I apologize ahead of time, because I understand that this has most likely been talked about before.  However, I think more models of the same plane would be a nice addition to the game.  Most of the planes in the game have one or only two variants of the same plane.  Take the A-20G for instance, or even the 4 engine American bombers... they had many other variants through the war years just as we have seen with the 109 and 190 family.  HTC has already added on to the P38s and B25s, I think that a more diverse plane set would be appealing to most everyone.

Discuss.

For Christ's sake, NO! We need more NEW planes than more new models.

Pretty much anything added will be considered a hangar queen beside the La7, Spit 16, P51 and N1K.

By "new", do you mean fill in the planeset, or we need more uber-late-war stuff?

Fill the plane set, of course! Jap planes, German bombers, Italian planes, Russian planes. I understand Germany and America were the two biggest players in the war (arguably), but other countries played their part.

I'd say Russia and the US were the two biggest players, then Germany and the UK close to parity, then Japan and following distantly, Italy and France.

It'd fly circles around your 205 all day long too.   Wait, I bet we need another 109?   Wait, I know, we need another Pee47?    Wait, hold on, we need another 190?   I pretty fly the Ki-61 exclusively.   It's a hangar queen to you AND the SEA events.   They ignored the historical basis of Rangoon and implemented the A6M5 instead of using the Ki-61 which, was involved in the WWII event.   The SEA group lost a possible player in me for blatantly snubbing the Ki-61.

So why punish folks like me who would fly it exclusively for the challenge of still shooting down "hot shot" easy kill La7's, Niki's, Spixteen who get cocky and end up in the tower?

No thank you.   IAR 81c, Mig3, Brewster, Do-217 and the PBY.   That's it.

JG11 was assigned the Ki61 in the last Pacific FSO (we usually try to get the 84, but it was severely limited in this FSO). As a bunch of guys who fly Luftwaffe Iron exclusively Late War and most of the time in the AvA (it isn't always available), we kicked arse- had the best kill record for us yet (against Hellcats and FM2s) The Ki61 is NICE. I'll be asking for it the next time were in a Pacific FSO :aok
The C.202 is a 'hangar queen' if there ever was one, but it's a very fun aircraft to fly and can give LW planes a handful if the pilots aren't on their toes.
The 109F is one of the best of the 109s-a 1941 aircraft- and the G6 is one of the worst, but it's still my favorite.
Planes that are considered 'hangar queens' tend to be my favorites. Just because it's not an uber '44/'45 plane doesn't mean it doesn't have a place in Aces High.
In fact, at this point- in my opinion of course- if they are an uber '44/'45 plane, they shouldn't have a place on HTC's future additions list- not for a long while.

MY point is NO plane is a hangar queen if it's used.   Some seem to think to flaunt elitism because they lounge around in Late Rides and think they're actually "worth something".    I'd rather all folks used "crap planes and fight", then "use Late War rides and be timid".

<<S>> Bubi, you're definitely mature for your age.    If the Ki-61 becomes available in either an FSO or SEA event, let me know and I'll participate.   I guess I was pretty much snubbed deliberately for that FSO, which cracks me up.

I was saying it as an example. We need more planes from the less-involved countries to even out the plane set.

Amen.   Enough redundancy, it's time to interject some fresh planes.

Well, there's an exception to this rule- with the current VVS planeset, you'd think the USSR watched from the sidelines and cheered on it's Allies, instead of taking the highest losses of any of them fighting in the most intense theater in some of the harshest conditions of the war.

Thanks <S> There probably  won't be another Pacific FSO for a little while, but we'll probably have room for you when there is one if you'd like to come.

The KI-84IB would probably render the Niki obsolete.

Would really like to see this version of the plane.

Thanks for askin,
