one thing to beer in mind that i tell people when upgrading/building a system (ill use ram as an example).
if you need 1 gig of ram to run the programs you need most people will only get 1 gig of ram. makes sense.
what about the programs you will use tomorrow? will the new version of that program need 1.5 or 2 gig? in which case you will need to upgrade your ram.
the point I'm trying to make is always try to future proof a new system/upgrade but getting more than what you need. it will cost more in the short term but will mean you wont have to upgrade for a lot longer so will save you money in the long term.
as a rule my CPU/mobo and graphics card get upgraded every 2 years. (CPU/mobo 1 year graphics the next). in January I'm due to upgrade my graphics card but since i bought a nvidia 8800gts 640MB instead of a 7xxx series card (from 6600gt) i wont need to upgrade for another year or 2.
hope this makes sense to you???
she will never need to upgrade any of this for what she is going to be doing. all this is a SHUT THE shreck UP computer for the wife. she going to play some games off msngames.com and stuff but that's all. the only reason i am putting major componets in it is i might have to service my gamin computer and have to use hers.
