Goodbye White Lightnin'
« on: August 25, 2008, 02:02:02 AM »
The P-38 Flying Bull (formerly known as White Lightnin') is about to leave the US for it's new home at the Red Bull Air Museum in Salzburg, Austria. It has just finished a complete restoration at
Ezell Aviation in Breckenridge, Texas. They did a beautiful job including a complete new skin. The plane had crash landeded into a Mississippi cotton field in 2001.

Great story in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. It will take the 7,500 mile flight from Breckenridge, Texas to Salzburg, Austria this week.

I take it you don't care for the Smithsonian Air & Space then?

i do, but i also think that these beautiful machines should be kept in the air.

it's like you spening thousands to restore your 69 rs z28, which is one of 200 or so built that way, and then keeping it in the garage, and only trailering it to the shows.

It's a shame it's going overseas.  :(
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Seriously who cares, it's just a p-38... it's not like it's something decent like a spit or a 190.

 :uhoh Sacrilege,  :t

Don't worry the P38 won't be grounded. The Red Bull museum flies their aircraft and travel around Europe to airshows. They've already put the Lightning on the website.

Maybe, I'll be lucky to see it sometime soon.

Right, it's a more complex and expensive aircraft

And what's wrong with that?  It's my car, I'll do as I chose, not what you want.  If they choose to put it in a museum, more power to them.
