Radio clutter and discipline idea for future scenarios
« on: August 26, 2008, 05:56:41 PM »
During the fourth frame of Rangoon '42 it got really confusing when orders were given to specific squads. Is there any way that each squad can have a designated channel while keeping the squad leaders in touch with the CO?

For the command teams that is the way to go, but you have to remember that the rest of the crew may not be on TS. So havin each squad on a different VOX would improve communication for the scenario.

Thats why I assign every squad their own vox channels for every scenario I run.

For example.

Squad vox assignments are as fallowed.

HQ P40E - Toxin = Vox 156
RECON A20G - Hawkeye = Vox 120
RAF Sqdn Spit I – Rabbit = Vox 101
AVG Sqdn  P40B – Panda Blue = Vox 141
AVG Sqdn P40E – Panda Red = Vox 140
RAAF Sqdn  F4F-3 (FM2) – Boomer 1 Vox 142
2nd RAAF Sqdn  F4F-3 (FM2) – Boomer 2 Vox 143
RAF Sqdn  Hurri I – Angel 1 Vox = 130
2nd RAF Sqdn  Hurri I – Angel 2 Vox 131

Ya I ordered that. (I think your getting allies and axis confused here) But Ya I/My command team had boomers 1 and 2 on the same vox channel since there job, roll, and orders where the exact same. Makes things much easier actually.

They may have had the same mission but cramming that many people on one VOX was very confusing as both Boomer 1 and 2 had different leaders...

Anyway, it was fun but a bit confusing at the same time..

Radio discipline!

- no useless chatter in voice radio, do it in writing on squad channel.
- short and effective talking when the situation is hot. AH voice puts the transmissions in a lien and some essential messages may arrive several seconds too late.
- if CO or GL tunes to other command chan, he can often still use range voice, especially if every squad is not flying at same area.

One problem with TS is that AH voice and TS can be heard at the same time, thus people talking in AH voice will mess up incoming TS talk. Still using TS for command chan is one of the best solutions.

If only the range voice was just a second tunable radio :)
