The D3a
« on: August 27, 2008, 06:06:48 AM »
ive been flying in the late war with the D3a. Bombing is cool wish i had bigger bombs. dogfighting is fun until you get cherry picked as you filling a p-38 full of holes. But with 6 kills ( mossi, spit 16, seafire, fw190d9, ta 152, a6m5 )  9 assists  ( 5 on lancasters 4 on b24's ) with 7 losses is not too bad for an obsolete plane.  :D

Anything that luffberries well is not obsolete in the main arena simply because there's always someone willing to get low and slow with you.

Was that your D3 around the A7 area on the Baltic map the other night?

7 losses with only 6 kills to show for it isn't a winning record.

The assists were probably just a couple pings on it. I've taken the D3A up against planes in Early war and owned spit5's easily.

the D3A1 is often underestimated by spit noobs....free kills

If you flew in KOTH you know what the D3A1 is able to do....

Not necessarily.  I flew the A6M2 a ton last tour to prepare for Rangoon, and I when I could get on someone's six and sustain BB fire on them for a while, I could shoot them down.  The problem would be that just one "friendly" zooming by shooting one cannon round into the same plane would get them the kill, even if I did all the real work.

Furthermore, and this is either my imagination or the game is modeled better than we realize... I'd ping planes 600 out with the BBs, see hit sprites, the target would get shot down by someone else, and I wouldn't even get an assist.  I'm guessing that after a certain range the .303s have so little momentum left the game models them as bouncing off, literally no damage.  Either that or I imagined the hit sprites in the first place.  But it happened too many times for that.

So either way, his kills/assists ratio seems correct.

Not suprising, they are used rarely.  If you want to see it you need to do it yourself.

Last thing I killed was a P-47N that tried to turnfight with me.  I took his elevators off.  Eventually.

I wish they D3A2 had been added istead.  It is about 40mph faster than the D3A1.

I'VE Only even fought them once or twice. i forget who the first one was, but he was good at avoiding my fire. i was in a zeke, and at first tried to turn with him..i couldn't so i dove away, reset, and would come in, try to get some sort of angle shot, then go out, and repeat. i never did get him.

the other one, i shot down in a single pass

as for flying it, i've onl flown it once or twice, and only then for bombing.

I have been shot down by a D3A. Taught me a valuable lesson: Do never ignore any plane because you consider it as being "harmless" ;)
