Just because the United States resists a logical system of measurement doesn't mean we have to bastardize aircraft like the 109 and Yak. :P  Give us metric instruments please. :aok

Not going to happen gents. And it is not a point of realism or preferences.

The problem is when fly planes in both English and metric. It instantly adds more work load to flying a metric plane if your primary rides English or visa versa.

2nd Communication becomes a major pain when different units are used with different airplanes.

3rd I have done both metric and English in a previous life, hated it so much it is not going to happen.

You are telling me that you actually find it natural to think and talk in terms like, "That chap looks to be about 1.87935624 meters tall..." or "Hello, I'd like a .337 meter Coney dog with chili and Jalepeno relish..."?????

Also, I'm sorry, I can squint at the barely visible ASI in the  Fw-190 in the "Il2" game, do a little head-math (6/10ths X so-and-so=mph) and figure out how fast I'm going. But by that time, the dogfight is over!  It still freaks me right the hell out when I'm in a dive, look down, and see "700" indicated!!!

Seriously though, the old game "Combat Flight Simulator" has a simple toggle to switch the instruments from
standard to metric, I see no reason why a similar feature couldn't be added to AHII at some point to make things easier for those poor lost souls out in metric land. You folks have enough to deal with, what with having to think of your feet as being .3022 units long and your thumbs as being 2.54 units across, etc.

I'll admit I'd have problems going from standard to metric but I'd really like to see airspeed measured in knots rather than MPH. :D

Nice try, one could think that the imperial units are standard around the world :)

In metric you'd say about someone hes 1m80 tall.

I'd be more inclined to say he's about 180cm tall ;)

Years ago, my science classes were taught with the metric system.  At my last job (when I lived in CA), all of our oceanography and ichthyology books used metric, and anyone who complained about that would be laughed at.  It's also very important to be comfortable with the metric system if you need to communicate with someone who's not American.  Yeah, welcome to the rest of the world.

Noir and sd67 already explained how we state offhand measurements, thanx guys.

Thank you, that's not too much to ask, is it?

I respectfully disagree with all of HT's opinions on this one, except for that converting back and forth in high school chemistry was a major pain in the butt.

HiTech

what the hell does mean "in a previous life" ???

Only USA keeps using imperial   (think about the name.... Imperial ...  :lol)  even UK is getting more familiar with metric system, but the aeronautic sector keeps using imperial cause USA that produces many aircrafts uses it...

adding metric and different languages to those planes that had them could be more realistic and doing some mental exercise converting alt and speed while AH trash your brain can be useful :P

He already did historically accurate guages in Warbirds (units of measure/language).

I remember that from around the time they sold to Wild Bill.  I thought the metric instruments were fantastic, and I was surprised to see them ignored in AH.  Kind of makes that "game from Texas" criticism we read about hit home. :P

Sure, a system of measures where everything is base 10 makes perfect sense (Unless we an intelligent species who has naturally has 8 digits, they'll think its madness.) Seriously, any educated person can convert metric to English and back and forth, not that big a deal, excessive complaints that the U.S. or other countries convert to metric or else remind me of the grinding foot of global homogenization. I am not a number, I am a free man, so I shall continue to think of my barn as being 1 furlong from my house or of that wakizashi hanging on my wall as being a 2 shaku long....

I've played sims that had both, had just the historical unit option, and now, had everthing converted to Imperial.

I wish it were an option.   Not to discount Hitech's opinion, but after a bit of initial confusion you settle in pretty quickly to being able to rapidly convert between the two scales.  The reason I wish it were an option is because some of the gauges in some German aircraft (altimeter, mainly, when displayed in feet) are VERY difficult to read accurately at a glance. It's very easy to confuse 5,000 and 15,000 feet because the gauges were intended for a different scale - you couldn't possibly confuse 5000 and 15000 meters.
