Gunning in the buffs.......how do you guys do it?
« on: September 29, 2000, 11:11:00 AM »
How do all of you do it?  Each time I try to defend my buff, the dang plane rocks and weaves all over the sky and I cannot target the attackers, much less hit them.
Is anyone else having this trouble, or have any of you experienced this?  If so, what did you do to correct it?

That's what good bomber attackers do, they rock and weave all over.  And they always come from high with lots of crossing speed (well, on a Lanc it's under the belly).

Get a feel for the .50's and always try to get the maximum number of guns pointed at him.  If you have to turn your bomber slightly to get him to tail chase, do it.  then figure out what lead you'll need on him and start shooting with a little extra angle and dial it back slowly until you get hits.

At least that works for me.  If the guy just tailchases then you should get him everytime... unless he's got a Hog-C and starts throwing 20mm at you from D1.3

I wonder if you have your flight controls somehow tied into your joystick while in gunner position...while in gunner position, your A/C should be on a straight and level flight, if you have rudders programmed to your 'twisty' type JS, then you may be turning your A/C with the JS movement...
bombers allow you to use your rudders while in the gunner position.

One other note, to test my theory above, join someone as a gunner, if its stable when you rotate the turret, then indeed something is not right with your joystick.

I was having the same problem.  I fixed it by turning off the twist input from the stick for my rudders.  I now fly buffs with keyboard rudder input only.  Also make sure your rudder is centered before going to the gunner position.  It takes some practice, but eventually you should be able to defend yourself....unless you get jumped by 4 cons like I did over 25 the other night...  :-)
