Sounds a little like working in flight planning for ATC, but also sounds a lot like the Navy's AZ rate.

From the folks that I've known that had their so called "approved" careers pre-planned before signing the dotted line, very few actually did what they joined the service for. The recruiters will say or do anything to get that signature, including lying to you. I hope that you actually do end up getting what you want.

See that pic? No aircraft in the picture.  The guy is pointing out to the girl that there is a FOD control attendant on the runway crying big elephant tears because he believed the recruiter. ;)

A recruiter lie? Only when their lips are moving. Ok their not that bad. But read the fine print. If it's on the contract they will probably do it. If not your contract is void. Well sort of. If they say so.

Yup... has always been so. About 40 years back I signed up for PBR's/PBM's (Watercraft), got trained as a Heavy Equipment Operator (62M20) and assigned as a mail clerk. After I managed to lose and redirect to ANYWHERE else the battalions mail for a month straight, I got assigned to a service and evac unit and got to do everything I wanted to do.

Go with minimum expectations.. celebrate meeting those. Stay alert to how the assignments 'game' is played then use the system to your advantage. ;)

Good luck! <S!>
