Naah better remove all data:
Dots in dar, sectorbars and also playercounter from roster. And heres the reason.
Edit: same map couple hours later.
If we could get rid of these maybe then we actually could have a real 3 sided war where all countries are attacking against each other.

And while you're at it, change the names. Rook?, Bishop? very low on the coolness meter. "Go Bishops!" now that has a ring to it! (not). How about Hearts, Spades, Clubs, and Diamonds? Or maybe Knights, Aces, Jokers, Jacks? Names should be inspiring, promote team loyalty etc. I don't think "Rooks" would be high on anyones "Cool name" list. But thats my opinion.

Remove enemy sector bars over territory your team doesn't influence. (CV or base)

actually, i would rather HAVE in flight radar, but ditch the sector bars, or make sector bars for a sector disappear after the tower has been bombed as well.

You do that you end up with especialy defensive pilots having less info then they may have had in WW2. Defending carriers only knowing that someone is arround? What is that.

I agree with Staga, remove all data, from the inflight map.

But while in tower we can have it the way it is now.

Actually since the inflight radar is a lashup to represent everything from radar to spotting reports to radio intercepts, it's something to keep, what needs to be changed is the certainty factor, when you look at dar right now, you get 100% accurate data,at real time interval. It needs to be fudged, say, make all contacts a nuetral shade (like gray) or build in a delay to the dar updates.
And while we are talking about it, ditch range info from the icons, if we need visual cues due to state-of-the-art, make the icons itself increase or decrease in size to a relative limit,no WW2 a/c carried a radar range computing gunsight, so let's inhibit this bit.

Interesting suggestion with the grayed out contacts on radar. I hadn't though of it much till I read pz's post, but all contacts can be identified as friendly or enemy far beyond visual identification range. A gray contact would certainly add some ambiguity to a radar contact until visual range is reached. Even well into Vietnam, visual ID was a must with the vagueries of radar technology, physics and early IFF systems. Yet overall all, for gameplay issues, radar should stay. The main arena "fun factor" goes way down when radar has been destroyed.

I like in-flight radar for base defense. I think this is a decent comprimise to make up for no flight controlers.

However, I do believe that NOE flying should be entirely off the radar. No sector bars.. no nothing. Once you're in the air and at high alt over enemy territory, however, you are fair game for anything.

It seems the ack has been changed enough to make base destruction by just two fighters rather difficult these days. Maybe that was the boost we needed to eliminate the low level sector display.

wow, the first time i ever agreed with deja on anything

i too think in flight is ok for base defense, within 15 miles of a friendly airfield

but for contacts under radar (500 feet agl) i dont think bars OR dots should show up.

also you should not get any info on the interior of an enemy's country.... unless it is within 25 miles of a friendly radar station

i DO think we need radar as a gameplay concession, but it should be limited to defensive situations, IMO

How about this idea.. the only way you can get sector bars in any enemy sector is if a friendly plane is inside the inner 2/3 of the sector. I say inner 2/3 to prevent someone from flying circles at the intersection of 4 sectors to see all of them in a manner of seconds.

Outside of having a spotter in the area... or a CV... no enemy dar deflections at all.

Oh.. and sector bars for each sector adjacent to a carrier.
