I used to love ABC news, mainly for Peter Jennings work.  Last night I lost a lot of respect for their reporting.  I was flipping through the channels and Charles Gibson was doing 20/20 on Gustav.  He said something along the lines of talking about two storms, Gustav passed and Hannah forming, and the Palin's daughter issue.  This was the frosting on the cake for last week's orgasm Charles was having on the Nightly news over replaying Obama's speech etc etc.  

Let's have some respect.  I think the hurricane victims trump a prego teen any day.

Damn, at first I just thought she was interesting and would liven things up in this dreadfully boring race towards socialism between McC and The Obamessiah.

With this bit of info, though, I'm thinking of skipping Bob Barr and the Libertarians and just writing Palin in for President.

This is EXACTLY the mindset we need in DC. It's clear she realizes the current Federal government has grown far beyond what the Founders envisioned and is far too intrusive into daily American life.

Kids don't drink because they enjoy a fine Scotch or a delicious beer, do they? They do it because it's bad and they want to get chit-faced and get wild.

The effects of alcohol abuse are considerably easier to overlook, particularly since the effects will not be immediately evident.

Having scabs on your face/junk because you jumped in the sack with a slut (male or female, to be fair to both sexes) is just a little closer to home.

It doesn't even have to be a promiscuous little blighter, it could be some unfortunate soul who picked up the virus as a young child..... Get it and you've still got it for life.

I am stunned by the utter lack of knowledge on the topic by my generation (20 - 25 years old) and I believe that had the risks and consequences of casual sex with multiple partners been explicitly outlined when we were younger some of the people I know might have escaped the situations they are in now.

I was lucky enough to learn all of this and find the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with early in life but I am the only person I know that is in such a position. I do not see how providing teens with information on the infections and diseases they can contract could have a negative effect.

Pregnancy has a solution (regardless of weather or you agree with that).... some STIs don't. Different ball game with absolutely no solution.

On the socially conservative issues I actually am But, that goes with being libertarian leaning. I disagree with Palin on a lot of her views, but she does seem to be able to set those aside more often than not (unlike many) where actual policy is concerned. She seems, though I haven't really dug into it yet, to be somewhat libertarian and Constitutional in her governance.

I would ask you this, Charon; How many voters' might think of Sarah Palin after letting her own daughter being used for a simple election strategy? What would that say about her character? Is it that she was that stupid to let it happen? Or is she so calous and cold, that her daughters' well being comes in second place to political aspiration? And that could also carry over to McCain...especially if it hits the press that this was part of McCains' planning.

Didn't say it was part of a master plan. Simply when going through the vetting process this certainly came up and I am sure it was obvious it would be "big news" and the campaign made an analysis of the relative risks associated with the issue and found them to be neutral or even positive depending upon the Democratic and media reaction. The same with "Trooper gate."

As for her daughter's well being... she's 17 years old. There were kids in my basic training cycle who were 17 years old. She is pretty much an adult. Her daughter made decisions that will impact her life forever. I'm sure the family will support Bristol, but this is mainly her daughter's problem and not her mother's. As you become a young adult you become responsible for your actions, and it sounds like Bristol is taking responsibility for those actions. I can't see why her mother should say, "Sorry John, I can't be VP because my daughter is pregnant and is getting married to the baby's father and getting on with the life she has made for herself with our support as needed."

It's not the point that she thinks "abstinence is the best policy" or not. I don't care what she thinks, hell I don't mind if that gets taught in school, it's a good idea to teach kids that. The ISSUE is the fact she think ONLY abstinence policy should be taught in school. So with that said it makes the fact that even her own daughter couldn't be abstinent a very REAL issue and shows just how wrong the women is on the subject.

Put a bunch of teenagers in a room and talk about how not to get pregnant, what do you think they will be thinking about the rest of the day (at least).
  Sex ed , IMHO, should be taught at home, not at school.
 It is not the government's job.

How bout if the teach math and science... hell.. with public schools if they even got half the kids to read and write before they graduated they would be doing a lot better.

You're putting words in my mouth.  Of course the parents have the ultimate responsibility to teach their kids about sex.  However, if there's going to be any sort of sex-ed in schools it should be based on effectiveness, not ideology.
