How about finding out you're pregnant at age 15?

That would be impossible since I am male.  :rock

What I am bashing Palin on is the fact she only supports abstinence education and she firmly will not support normal sex education along side the abstinence. She has publicly stated she will not approve funds to schools that teach the traditional sex education because she thinks abstinence only is all that should be taught.

What she actually said was that she wouldn't support explicit sex education. However, she's supporting birth control so one must conclude that she supports sex education. After all, how can you support birth control without supporting a basic working knowledge of how reproduction works?

Time Magazine, that bastion of Conservativism, says she supports birth control as well as abstinence.

She is Christian and pro-life, but also a supporter of birth control: she's a member of Feminists For Life (FFL), an anti-abortion, pro-contraception organization.

OK, OK... Time is just tooooo Conservative for you.

How about Reproductive Health Reality Check? Still too Conservative?

Palin is pro-contraception, though it is unclear how she defines contraception, putting her at odds with many in the "pro-life" movement that claim birth control is the same thing as abortion.

Not how you feel about babies, but how you would feel at that exact moment you found out you were going to be a 15 yo mother.  I would say that many (and I have seen this first hand) would cry out of sadness first, then later be proud.  So, initially the 15 yo is probably going to feel punished for her actions, also, if she had aspirations of not getting preggo until she was married or older, then those dreams would be shattered.

Ok, now that I am done being a smart alec.....I'll respond seriously.  :D

She may very well feel as if she is being punished initially. Yet once that baby is born I'd be willing to be she views it in an entirely different manner. She will love that child in the same way that all mothers love their children.

I, however, maintain that the big things (going to prison, getting pregnant) are things that reflect very poorly on the parents, and are things that could have been avoided with better parenting.

How many children have you raised that are now age 21 or older?

Same question to SkyRock.

I have two boys. One is an exceptional human. The other has been a rebel all his life and has been in jail for short stays due to marijuana 3 different times.

As far as humanly possible, their mother and I raised them both in exactly the same way.

You think it was parenting? If so, I reserve the right to think you don't know what you are talking about.

And then he quite clearly states that he's "going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby."

Spin like a top all you like but he clearly views babies as punishment if his daughter(s) get knocked up. Can't dance around it, can't BS your way to any other interpretation. If you can't understand that you either lack reading comprehension skills or you are lying to yourself.

OK, maybe you do lack reading comprehension skills. You've been bashing Palin for her support of abstinence education and yet your Obamessiah supports it as well. I guess the irony of your posts here escapes you.
[/color]

He said the wrong thing - even he admits it...I understand him to have meant - to be burdened with raising a child at that young of an age... imagine yourself at 17 coming to the realization that -hey - you are now a parent- grow up and take responsibility...imagine the feelings you would have ..the guilt, the growing fear of the reality of the situation...the self punishment you would be putting yourself through psychologically.... bad choice of words - but the meaning is clear... kinda nitpicking really...

Another quote
"The actions and behavior of the child is a clear reflection of the abilities and character of the parents. To suggest that Palin was somehow helpless in this situation ridiculous sidestepping."

Wow - is this off the wall - if your parents knew everything you did while you were a teenager....either you lived in a box.. or you have no self imagination... you would be nothing but a puppet..
I feel bad for Palin's daughter having this situation used to bash her mother... the media and people who bring it up are morally inefficient ... and by questioning her morals - prove it tenfold.....
When I first saw the story - I remembered my teenage years and early college days - and thought - There but for the grace of Jod go I .... Cuz I sure didn't live in a box

I don't see a lot of statistics showing that any form of sex education -- abstinence or contraception -- is a  miracle cure-all. Most big urban areas, as far as I can tell, mandate some form of sex education with a contreception focus included and yet they have some of the highest rates of teen pregnancy. I would also imagine that virtually 100 percent of teenagers, regardless of background, know that sexual intercourse can make a baby. Some apparently don't care -- period -- and some apparently let the heat of the moment get in the way.

A lot of us probably have experiences from our youth or college/bar days where hormones got in the way of safe sex, even if the partner was on the pill or IUD and the issue was STDs and not fatherhood.

In some cases kids are raised poorly and don't care about making a baby, in others they were raised "right" but don't care for the 10 minutes or so when the hormones and instinct take over and in others they logically or morally resist the urge and avoid sex or avoid sex without contraception.

His line about the STD was the exact same as the line about the baby.. He used punish in the same way in regards to both, so how can you understand one but not the other?

Punishment for underage sex in Obama's eyes are looked at as:

A: having a baby
B: getting an STD

He makes no differentiation.  Cripes Crockett, you can spin better than Krusty.

It is off the wall to think that a parent is not the most influential factor in molding a child into the person they become.

A parent can't keep a round-the-clock watch over their child. That is why a parent teaches their child to be responsible. While it is impossible to raise a perfect person, when your kid makes a huge error (like getting pregnant at 15) you screwed up in a big way. That doesn't make you a bad person at all, but it might mean that you aren't an outstanding enough person to be Vice President. After all, shouldn't our highest elected officials be embodiments of the very best our nation can be?

That's all.

I understand both statements. He does not want them punished with a baby or an std. Yet, without consequences for our actions do we truly learn from our mistakes?

And now you fall into the trap..

Obama was basiclly saying he wanted them to learn about it before hand, so they didn't have to get stuck learning the "hard way". That is exactlly what a good parent should do for their kids in a situation as imporant as a baby or a STD.

Perhaps the goverment should someway prohibit children from having kids in the first place, somehow medically remove the ability to have children untill you are at the age of 18.

Obama's statement said nothing of "learning the hard way".

He spcifically said "punished for a mistake".

There is a difference.

While they have not done this across the board, they have made it mostly a reality with abortions as birth control.

So my parents were failures for having 2 out of 8 kids act like social rejects? 2 out of 8 refused to be taught, refused to listen, went their own way instead of what they were being taught be people who loved them...and that means my parents screwed up in a big way?

I think just the opposite, they succeeded with 6 that listened to them (for the most part). They were not failures, the failures were my 2 brothers.
