It is quite obvious that some of these posters do not have children or don't have teenage children.

Yup.

If we don't judge someone based on their past, especially someone running for public office, how exactly do we form an opinion about them? Do we take a wild guess? I always thought we examined their professional and personal record. We are trying to make informed choices aren't we?

Then I guess Obama is out due to his past propensity for drug use/abuse.

This women keeps getting better and better. Now it's being reported she tried to ban books in the public library when she first became mayor. This also involves yet another firing because she fired the liberian who refused to censor the books. Palin later had to ease away from the subject and back off because it became a big up roar in the town.

There is no way McCain vetted this women properly and the reports are likely true that his team didn't even start checking her out until the day before he asked her to be VP. No possible way any politician in their right mind would select someone with this much crap in their background. Either way it shows McCain's total lack of good judgment.

From your own first link:

Quote
Shortly after becoming mayor, former city officials and Wasilla residents said, Ms. Palin approached the town librarian about the possibility of banning some books, though she never followed through...

And....

Quote
According to the Frontiersman newspaper, Wasilla’s library director, Mary Ellen Emmons, said that Palin asked her outright if she "could live with censorship of library books.” Palin later dismissed the conversation as a “rhetorical” exercise.

Palin asked one time, which would be consistent with a conversation that was merely a rhetorical exercise. All 4 links agree on this. The only information that is different comes from the fourth link.

Quote
"She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "

Sounds like she was responding to something that at least some of her constituents wanted. (I am not condoning censorship)

She did fire the librarian, although the links don't give the exact reason for the firing. The librarian was allowed to come back after the public supported her, but she ended up leaving the job and Wasilla a couple of years later anyways.

Allowing the librarian to come back shows a willingness to correct mistakes (real or perceived) imo.

It's not surprising that there was some turmoil surrounding her beginnings as Mayor of Wasilla, it was after all, her first real executive position as a politician. I expect she made some mistakes and had some things that were done well. Her mistakes couldn't have been to big or costly since she was reelected for a second term.

And then she went on to get the nod as Governor of the State of Alaska ... all the while taking on her own "party" and unseating one of the "Good Ole Boys" from the Governor's mansion ... yup ... the people of Alaska really took to heart all her terrible "failings" as mayor and still voted her for Governor ... ohh ... or was it her "successes" that got her into the mansion ?

I didn't think I needed to point this part out, but in retrospect and considering some of the posters here that are grasping at any straw, no matter how bent and warped it is, I should have pointed this out anyways. Thanks for covering for my failure to do so.  :D

Earlier this year, John McCain's Vice Presidential pick, Sarah Palin, slashed funding for programs that help support teen mothers in her state of Alaska.

It's funny. When my great niece got pregnant at the same age as Bristol, no one considered letting the state pay for her mistake. Wasn't the state taxpayers' responsibility. Her Tennessee, Christian family pulled together. The kids, poised for college, had to change plans. Their parents were hard working, but hardly rich and difficult choices had to be made. Since they had pride and dignity they made those choices. The kids got married. The parents helped out with getting a house built on some inherited property. The young mom raised her kid (followed by several more in wedlock) with some help from the family -- but mostly pulling their own weight. The young man went to work and built himself up. They are still married more than a 15 years later. Sounds like the Palin experience. Are Alaska taxpayers expected to pay Bristol's way? Don't think so.

Compare and contrast to urban Chicago, full of progressive democratic handout programs for those "poor" people. You have mothers with multiple illegitimate children by multiple fathers (who walk out as soon as the babymomma gets knocked up to father other children with other women) getting a fair sum of my tax dollars to go out partying while the streets raise their kids. Not only is personal responsibility a dirty word, there are govt. program rewards for irresponsible behavior to discourage personal responsibility. In many cases it's a multigenerational way of life. And I pay the highest tax rate in America to support them and their "way of life."

Sorry, but the way Palin's family is handling this whole issue points out the core failure of progressive policy and why so many of us who are not loads on society find it offensive.

LNAO, I remember a statehouse steps interview with Jesse Venture just after he became governor on MN, when a reporterette asked him "Well, what are you going to do about the unwed mothers?" He responded "Now why should THAT be MY problem?" Said reporterette stared at him blankly :aok
