tank busting
« on: September 02, 2008, 12:01:42 PM »
over the weekend i use the hurri2d and the yak9t for killing gvs. after numerous hits with the hurri i managed 1 m8 kill and 1 kill on a m4. with the yak9t i killed 2 m8's, 2 m3's, 1 m16, and 1 m4. im more comfortable with the yak, it has a faster reload. with the hurri i had to get really close and pop one round off and come back for another pass. ive tried the b25 and keep getting shot down by gvs so i dont even bother.

My experience is just about anything can kill an m8. I've killed them with cannon, 50 cal. One time, in Allies vs. Axis, I even killed one with 30 cal from a Mark 1 Spit or Hurri. That was a surprise. :huh

Most gvs like jeeps and m16s are fairly easy kills, as we all know. I do have problems, though, actually killing any armored vehicles with 50 cal or cannons. I can usually get them smoking and get the kill when they ditch but, even with an IL2, I seem to have a tough time actually blowing up a tank or flak.

That's one reason I started experimenting in earnest with the b25 and have gotten pretty decent with it. You're right, though, they're so sluggish they fall easy prey to flak. By the time you're close enough to identify the target, you're in their kill range and it's all you can do to get out of range before they hit you. As a result, I've been trying to hit them from far enough out they can't hit me.

The cannon on the B25H is supposed to have a range of 5000 yards. Problem is, you have to have the target well identified early so you can tell which dot in the landscape to aim at. I've hit a few gvs from far out and was pretty proud of myself when I took out a wirblewind turret from around 2000 yards the other day. I just wish I could do it more than once out of 100 shots.

In my experience, when dealing with Flak Panzers and Warbles in a B-25H, you should make your first attacking pass with the 8 .50 cal guns, and hope to take out its turret. Start shooting at them from much MUCH farther out than you think.

When you're firing all your machine guns at them, there are so many tracers in the air (from the point of view of the GV that's shooting back at you), it makes it hard for the GV-er to track the GV's tracers to make a good clean shot on you. Then if you've taken out the main gun and they haven't already ditched (giving you the kill), make your second pass with the 75mm gun.

This is by no means a guarantee, but I find it helps your chances. I still get taken out more than half the time by a Warble, but I was being taken out more than 90% of the time by just attacking with the 75mm alone...

Hurri with the 40mm's takes alot of getting used to, but when you do knocking out engines on panzers and shermans gets EZ, Tigers and t34's however are a diffrent story,to kill either of these takes a shot into the turret while diving almost straight down....Not an ez thing to do, especialy if they are moving. :aok

Well at least someone has the right idea, and learned to use the MGs (no one listens when i tell em) :D.  However a good way to do it is go in with the MGs a blazin' and once in comfortable distance fire the 75mm on first pass.  I normally start firing MGs at 1-1.5K and at 600-800 i stop MGs and fir the cannon, that way they have no time to repair while you line up for second pass. :aok

Ok ive got another story im sure ur all dying to hear. It was 2:30 in the afternoon I pull out of the VH in a tiger to defend the field which is flashing. Hooter is there also in an m4 trying to figure out why its flashing. At 2:32pm an NOE typh pops up and strafes my tiger. I attach a scope to the 50cal machine gun and fire at him I miss completely and 3 sheep diein the crossfire and the typhy flies away. THE END

More amazing and breath taking stories soon.
