Very Good Rusty :aok

Patrick MacNee was educated at Eton College, was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy and was awarded the Atlantic Star for his service during World War II.

Despite numerous roles in theatre, on television and in cinema, Macnee is still best known as John Steed in the series The Avengers (broadcast from 1961 to 1969). Initially a secondary character — the series was conceived as a vehicle for Ian Hendry, who played an associate of Steed's — Steed (and Macnee) became the centre of the show after Hendry's departure at the end of the first season. He played opposite a succession of female partners that included Honor Blackman (yep, grapefruit Galore from "Goldfinger"), Diana Rigg, and finally Linda Thorson.

Among other roles, he also provided the voice of "The Imperious Leader" of the Cylons in the original Battlestar Galactica.

But enough about him....

Any red-blooded male between the ages of 9 and 90 in 1968 knew the real reason to watch The Avengers was to see "Mrs. Peel". Played by Diana Rigg, she ooozed sex appeal.

In fact, her very character was named for what the show's producers were looking for when she was cast. Shying away from the term "Sex Appeal" (it was the 60's you know), the producers set out to find a partner for John Steed with what they called "Man Appeal", or simply "M. Appeal". Well they found her, and appropriately named Diana Rigg's character "Emma Peel". Cool Huh  :aok

But don't take my word for it. Check these out.

:rock Cool Trivia Alert :rock
Ray Davies, founder of "The Kinks", confided in an interview years later that the group's name was actually inspired by Mrs. Peel's kinky leather boots.

OK, back to more boring stuff.

x2  McMahon was a Marine (Oohrah) flight instructor and test pilot during WWII and was later activated for the Korean War where he flew O-1E's spotting for artillery and tactical air controll missions.

Jackie Robinson who after 2 years after enlisting in the Army was promoted to 2nd Lt.  He was court-martialed in relation to his objections with incidents of racial discrimination.  This is all before he broke the color barrier in MLB.  Did I steal some of your thunder?

Side note:  During Robinson's court-martial trial, his unit left for Omaha Beach, imagine what would have happened had he not been court-martialed.
