McCain was born August 29, 1936 he would be 72 when sworn in.

Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911

He was 73 + about 350 days when he was sworn in ... the second time.

In order for to McCain to beat that he would have to be re-elected.

Here I'd like to note that incumbents usually do pretty well at getting re-elected. A two-term McCain presidency would have him going into it at 76-77. That's getting up there.

Reagan was 69 when he first got elected to the White house. If you go by that, then RPM's right. If you go by re-election, Warspawn's correct; We can't assume that McCain would get/persue re-election, but if you count the fact that most president's do get a second term, then McCain will potentially be the oldest by a fair margin.

Purely curious.
Did you do the same kind of post for Obama/Bidin?
Was there a similar article written after their speeches?

Are you daft man? You are talking to Larry Flynt, you KNOW he hates Palin and is in wubs wif Obamessiah.  :devil

Palin did a fine job; clearly passed the test on what they call her second most important day. First day was the announcement, 2nd the convention and 3rd will be the debate. That's all Veeps can do, score big on those three days. My scorecard has her doing very, very well on Day 1 and Day 2. I think she'll make for an interesting debate opponent for Biden. She seems very likable and speaks in a way that normal (non-political, non-media) people can easily understand and accept.

Good pick; it makes this whole thing more interesting. I'd have ignored the rest if he had picked a snoozer like Romney or Biden.

I really don't watch much of this stuff but I made an exception to see if she could handle the speech. Absolute best part of the evening was after the speech watching MSNBC. Olberman looked like his dog had just died and Matthews looked like that tingle running down his leg this time was urine.   :D

God, it is SO clear that the mass media is O-biased that it is simply revolting. Even Andrea Mitchell down on the floor looked like she just found out her Baby Ruth was a dog turd.

As I said, win or lose Palin makes the whole thing more fun to watch.

Yeah, her disabled infant son was able to communicate to Mom&Co just how loud the noise was. Any infant, disabled or not, should never be exposed to such an environment during their formative years unless you have plans that don't include that child. You can't use your kids as a token.

I'd have had more respect if she left the child with a Nanny at the Hotel instead of using him as a token at the Convo.

Will he remember the Convo?

Will he remember what he heard (WHAT!?!?)?

The only thing the kid will live with is  permanent hearing damage.

Pass the hearing aid!

Seriously, I'd have never taken my child to a mass gathering like a political convo. There is nothing for the child to gain from it, only the opportunistic parent.

you are so grasping you make yourself look sad...

So he speaks in deep thoughts and she speaks in sound bites. Yeah, that's what I'm looking for.

He hasn't spoken in a deep thought YET! "If we can have change, we can have hope" is NOT a clear thought. Obama speaks in clear, concise, ............................. ..........ambiguities.

Quote
PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

Did Palin pursue money for Wasilla? Sure she did. She was helping her growing community with things like, rail projects, sewer system repairs, museums, youth centers and a mental health center. I don't call those types of things wasteful, or abuse of the system.

Quote
PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."

What did bills did he author? He has an Ivy League education after all, lets see that bad boy in action! I don't think I've seen anyone demean what he has done, only what he hasn't done. Authoring bills is a major part of what our legislators do, granted, some are more active about it than others though.

Quote
PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

Your own facts don't dispute this, they only say....my side is raising taxes, but so is yours! Only thing is, your side (Obamessiah) is raising them more.

Quote
MCCAIN: "She's been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America's energy supply ... She's responsible for 20 percent of the nation's energy supply. I'm entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America," he said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson.

Your posted rebuttal does not dispute the fact that Alaska has 20 percent of America's energy supplies. Only that Alaska is 2nd in energy production, McCain didn't mention that. Governors would have a lot more control over their states energy production if the darn Feds would pull their fingers out of things. Really, that is how it should be.

Quote
MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.

While it is true that National Guard units are under federal authority when called to active military duty, the State Governors are in command when they call them up due to civilian type emergencies iirc. Your posted rebuttal ignores this fact.

Quote
FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."

I'm guessing he meant percentage wise, but failed to state that. 76,000 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia is a pretty pitiful showing by a presidential hopeful.

Quote
FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."

Kind of a dumb statement imo. There are big government liberals in Washington, but they are in Congress atm and electing John McCain and Sarah Palin isn't going to do squat about that. I'll take a wild shot in the dark and say the writer really screwed the pooch on this one.  ;)

5 of your 7 talking points really have no substance, you're getting better.  :D

The mass media's bias in general has been quite revolting for a very long time now. There job, imo, is to present us with the issues, what each candidate is for and against and let us decide how we want to vote. Instead those arrogant punks think they somehow have the right to try to sway our votes to their bias.

It was a one two.. back to back home runs by rudy and then Palin.

Rudy gave the big city guy.. no.. the bigger than chicago guy perspective and very effectively mocked the "community organizer"

Palin got on and came off like..  A person.. someone who could live in your town.. not some gated community or apt in chicago who came down to talk to whiney ghetto folk once in a while but..  like the vast majority of America..

The line about talking about such folks one way to their face and then calling em  "bitter folks clinging to their religion and guns" in san francisco was perfect.

I think she cut osamabinbiden to pieces.   I think that any woman watching (unless they are a shrill lesbo big city stressed out witch who has had 5 abortions) will feel like she is someone they would love to know and someone they wanted in washington.

She came off like someone who cared more for individual rights than the rights of washington.

I think she turned the tables on osama.. She made him seem like more of the same old liberal washington insider and media hype stuff while portraying herself and Maccain as maverics for the people.

I think that she nuetered the media..  dragged off their covers and exposed em for the biased socialist aholes that they are.   I think America will never look at the media the same after the attacks on her.

She didn't come off like a pitiful victim defending herself.. she came off as just folks and tough as nails.

The media didn't make her cry.   They can make osamabama cry with just a few harsh words.

and rudy's line about osamaba and his voting record..  how he took the tough stance and on a yes or no vote..  more than 130 (or whatever) times screwed up his courage and voted

PRESENT.

The POTUS doesn't get to vote "present"

and.. Palin said something that makes her and Mccain  as far away from bush as marx and Regan.. She said that she used the power of the veto as governor.. she knows it works and so does John Mccain..  Mccain will use the power of the veto.

When you have a congress full of the likes of teddy and pelosi and pretty much.. kalifornia making law..  who do you want weilding the power of the veto or the rubber stamp... osamabinbiden or Mccain/Palin?

The following is an Email I just banged off to a good friend and business associate of mine
who is also a contractor.

His business is larger then mine but $250K a year in this day and age is NOT a big business by any stretch of the imagination.

"Not sure if you remember the discussion Joe and I were having about taxes and taxing the rich.
Joe might remember my statement of asking him if he thought he should be punished with more taxes for working hard and being successful.

Now I dont know how much your 5 Star makes.
But just doing some quick math in my head based on the amount of guys you have and a general idea of how much income you would have to generate to meet payroll and all its associated expenses.

Its in my opinion a decent guess to say you probably crack the $250K mark. Or at least come very close to it.

An excerpt from an article written about last nights speech.
(I included a link to the complete article on the bottom of the page if you care to read it)
I highlighted the point I'm making
Betcha didn't know you were "rich" or are considered to be among the wealthiest huh?

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

Now Obama's plan looks great till you reach the point I highlighted
This is the problem I have with the plans the Democrats keep coming up with.
The way they keep putting it it sounds great
"Taxing the rich" sounds good if we're talking about Cheney or Trump.
That is what most people like you and I consider as being "rich".
But is that really who we are talking about here?
In this case your taxes will go up. We already know its going to hurt you.
Question is. in the long run Is this going to help or hurt your workers in the long run.
Yea they get a bigger tax break. But now you have less money to pay them with because your paying more in taxes.
Would you rather pay your guys more yourself for working hard and earning it because you are taxed less and thus can afford it?
Or would you rather the government force it from you to give to them regardless if they earned it or not?

Just some food for thought"

That was a home run line by Rudy.  :rock

Seriously, why would a legislator simply vote PRESENT so many times? Is it really so hard to make up one's mind and vote YES or NO?

"Tax the rich"  Sorry, I'm not buying it. These "rich" people provide the goods and services we all buy. Tax them and it costs us. Tax GM, and we pay more for cars and trucks. Tax Exxon and we pay more for gas and diesel. Tax WalMart and we pay more for everything. It sounds real cool to say "tax the rich, tax the corporations" until you figure out that YOU pay that taxes when you buy their products and services. At least it sounds cool to some people.

dred.. the plan did not look good before that... when he said he would increase the "earned income credit"

You do know what that is?  if you work two months at walmart..  you will not only get every cent you put into taxes but.. you will get a huge check from those who have earned.. it is simply a redistribution of wealth.

I do agree with you that $250k is not a lot of money for a business.. it is shoestring here in kalifornia.. it will kill small business which is the real backbone of the economy.

I admit that I do like that both parties are trying to bribe us into voting for them in ever more desperate and outrageous ways and giving us back more and more of our money back....

ON PAPER

Do I believe that any democrat pres with a democrat house will give back tax money?  not in this lifetime.

Will Mccain give back 3%.. probly.. sounds about right but it won't even happen till 2 years into his term is my guess.

The discussion my buddy Joe and I were having a few weeks ago were over taxes. He supported "taxing the rich". Because of the rhetoric the Dems put out of them being able to afford it.
I mentioned the trickle down effect it would have much in the same way Vigil put it. and also asked him that if he built his business up enough to the point where he was rich if he  thought he should be punished with more taxes for working hard.

this was before I'd seen the actual numbers.

Turns out according to the Democrats. He is Rich. LOL
