Comcast is appealing the FCC ruling

Just when you thought Comcast would get things back to normal, they go and cap the amount of data users can download and then charge for over use.

Now they are appealing the FCC ruling that forced them to stop using the traffic management scheme which artificially restricted users traffic.

Ya gotta luv these guys.  NOT!

Chair Kevin Martin said today that he was "disappointed" by Comcast's decision to sue the FCC over its move to sanction the company for P2P throttling. With everyone so dissatisfied with them how do they operate as a buisness?  Not enough alternatives available?

I don't know how it works everywhere but here utilities and service providers sign exclusive contracts with local governments in exchange for user fees and taxes.  The local government controls the utility easements and therefore can control how much competition takes place.  This is a lose lose for the consumer but crooked local politicians make a bundle.  The average Joe is too ignorant to even comprehend what is going on. 

Advances in wireless technologies will at least fix the information bottleneck just as cellular technology and voip is "fixing" the complacency of landline providers.

Here in the Denver metro area the only cable option is Comcast. While we have had no major issues with them so far, (other than the occasional service outage that has happened with every cable company I've had service from), I understand that lots of other folks do have issues with them.

One of my pet peeves with comcast other then their arrogance was they had this nasty habit of offering less and then charging more.
Reducing the number of channels then raising their prices.
and when they didnt do that. The would sometimes either get rid of channels I did watch. Or suddenly make them "premium" channels. Then replace them with channels few people in this area had any use for whatsoever.
Example. there isnt a very large spanish speaking population in this particular area. But there is a large Indian contingent.
They went "Premium" on NFL network and got rid of one other channel (I forget now which) and replaced them with 2 spanish channels.

Indian speaking channels would have at least made some sense as it would have fit our demographic
Spanish did not.

Then they raised the overall price under the guise of offering more channels.
but they were channels which few had any use for.

then when we called and complained we were basically told tough chit.

When Verizon came in. People changed in droves. I think everyone on my block changed.
specifically because of the same reasons I just described.
Hardly anyone in this area uses Comcast anymore.

because they might be connected to the people whose arse you may have to kiss later.

The way  I understand it, even if you're not on a comcast connection it can still affect you if you get routed through a comcast hub?

Where I live, as the cable ends ~1 mile from my house, only option for psuedo high speed is Dish satellite, which only has download rate of 25K, and chokes off THAT down to dial-up speeds after a few gigs each day. My neighbor got one, and every day when dad gets home, kid has used up all the bandwith watching youtube and porn
