Highway repair and gas
« on: September 06, 2008, 08:52:50 AM »
I just heard something that kinda opened my eyes.
We are using less gas. the government gets about 18 cents
for every gallon of gas. Since we are using less oil,
there are less tax dollars going to the Gov.
Lots of the tax dollars from gas, goes to road repair...guess what..
here in Ohio our highway fund is broke. That's right..not enough money
to fix the roads.
 Geezzzz  whats next?

Tough Stuff boys. They should have saved up money and spent less on the favorite things they do like helping those that don't want to help themselves.

The problem isn't that you're getting less.

The problem is that some while back, Politicians took ALL of the directed and general tax funds, i.e. tax collected on gas for road repair, and put that money in a "General Fund."  These same politicians then spend from the general fund for whatever they want like a teenager who gets their first paycheck.

Then they whine to US that they don't have enough tax money.  It's one of the main reasons that Social Security is broke.

I say we tell the politicians to go diddly themselves.

This is what happens when you keep putting Republicans and Democrats in office.

What's next you ask?

Well, they'll have to raise the gas taxes to keep their revenue at the current levels.

Conserve, oh wait, no don't.....hmmmm, maybe we should look at cutting some wasteful spending to make up the difference....YA THINK?

We get a double wammy in the north because as fuel prices rise, people use less, tax revenue goes down and we use A LOT of fuel plowing snow in the winter.  The DOT is spending more on fuel from a smaller pot.  The way I look at it, however, is that things are tough all over.  When my expenses get higher, I can't go to my boss and demand a raise, I have to make due and find a way to get by.  Why should gubment be any different?  This is the basic flaw of socialism.

The Dems will simply raise gas taxes to compensate.

Road tax?  We have to pay it here.  Not only does the motorist get shafted by the govt every time they fill up, but every car has to pay a yearly tax so that they are allowed to drive.  The amount you pay depends on the engine size.  This supposedly gets used to improve the roads, which is BS.

My car tax is about $400 a year, plus about $100 to fill up - most of it tax.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

For many years the notable ethanol subsidy was paid for out of highway funds.

Now our renewable future comes out of the general fund of tax dollars.

Someone check and see how much federal money Ohio gets for their roads having a split speed limit.
Big trucks have one speed and cars have a higher speed. Like Commiefornia I think this limits their funding from uncle sam.
