Coming from WNC where we had a prologging representative for a long time it is sad to see Old Growth forests being logged.
There are only a few of them left that have been untouched by logging.
http://www.main.nc.us/graham/hiking/joycekil.htmlJoyce Kilmer is an amazing place to visit if you get the chance. Amazing to think that just a couple hundred years ago a lot of WNC mountain coves would resemble it. I remember going with Boy Scouts when I was young. When it took 10 of us hand in hand to wrap around one of the trunks it really put the trees age into perspective.
With so few old growth forests left I would scorn any who recommend logging them. With so few remaining it is only greed driving the logging, no need.
"I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree...."
-Kilmer
And before anyone starts bashing Kilmer as a tree loving hippy you would be proud to know he gave his life for his country in WW1 and that the forest is a living memorial.
