I'm confused about the whole perk points thing
« on: January 03, 2001, 03:37:00 PM »
Hi All,
Can someone please explain to me a couple questions I have of exactly how the points system works. I'm not really bothered about how many I've got or how long it will take to get my F16 etc. So I am not interested in knowing which targets give me the hightest tally I just want some clarifictaion.

The other night we were hitting 35 very hard and I decided to grab a goon. It was a long flight (The nearest available field was 50 miles away) and on the way I tangled with a 205. He misjudged my Altitude (About 2 feet) and after 1 evasive he hit the water. I carried on and eventually dropped and we took the field   Feeling really pleased with myself I taxied over to the runway and went to the tower. 1.25 points?????   Why didn't I get my kill? (It appeared in the radio buffer). Was it because the goon is a bomber and you can't score fighter points? I've had similar experiences when flying aircraft as "Attack" not "Fighter" don't you get other aircraft kills unless you fly in "Fighter" configuration? Is it a bug?

Most people probably wouldn't notice the odd missed kill but my kills are about as common as rocking horse toejam at the moment

Any thoughts, answers?

Thanks in advance

What were you flying?  It matters.  Have a read of this: http://www.hitechcreations.com/cgi-bin/frames.pl?page=105hangar

If you are flying a fighter with an ENY value of 5 and you score a kill on a plane with an ENY value of 4, you would receive (5/4) = 1.25 fighter perk points.

He was flying a C-47.

The issue here is:  Why is a base capture scored so low?

Hi Both,
Thanks for the link Lephturn. I had already read it when it was 1st posted but it was worth another read. As Karnak says I was flying aa goon and yes (IMO) 1 point for flying into that cauldron of hate should have been worth more   . The other .25 was I assume for landing the mission. That still leaves the small matter of my kill   The goon has a ENY points value of 50 the 205 is 40 so I should have got an extra 1.25 points to add to my completed gooney mission, or so I would have thought making the not insignificant total (For me anyway)   of 2.5 points presumably added to my "perk bomber points".

I still don't think it is right (But I ain't going to worry about it).

I think air to air kills don't count when flying "bomber" missions, only ground target do.

You could wipe out the entire Rook airforce singlehanded with your B-17 O' Death-On-Wings, but if you don't hit any ground targets with the bombs, you won't get squat.

Bomber, Fighter, and Attack missions are scored seperate, and use seperate criteria for scoring.

Hans.

C-47 should have a huge kill multiplier, besides, it's historically inaccurate not to award gooney drivers with a kill. In WWII one incident occurred where a zeke pilot rammed a C47 - took a great chunk out of the Dakota, but the plane being what it is, the pilot landed it.. and thanks to land troops watching the engagement, got credited with the kill

IMO Gooney drivers should get at least 0.5 points for every drunk making it into the maproom..

Whoops, I obviously didn't read carefully enough the first time.

While I do not think that you should get kill points for getting kills in a Goon, I DO think that getting points for every drunk they successfully deliver is a good idea, along with a decent bonus for capturing the field.  Same goes for the M3.  That part makes sense.

Oh and BTW, the ENY values are not randomly assigned AFAIK.  I believe they are simply values that are dynamically generated based on how much that particular plane is flown in the arena compared to the others.  IE:  The plane with the lowest ENY value is the one that is flown the most.

Hey Duma,
Nice idea about the points per drunk into the maproom. In the particular capture mentioned above "napalmer" dropped about 3 mins before me but most of his drunks were strafed. I said on country channel at the time that we should have shared the points as we got the capture after only 7 of my drunks went in.

Hans,
Sadly I think you are correct about the air to air kills in a bomber (Can HT acknowledge or refute this - If it is the case what is the incentive to join a bomber (On a bombing mission) as a gunner)?

Air to Air kills should be awarded for bombers...
even if its 1 point for the kill.

Flying a mission travelling to a target 8 sectors away, possibly braving fighter cover on he way to the target.  Get shot down by the 3rd F4u to bounce your buff, after you shot down the 2 before it resulting in no points cuz u didn't make it to the target?

Srry haven't tested but will...

Its hard enough rtb'ing a buff mission as it is, perhaps a much larger modifier for a landed run, otherwise whats the point?
