Any coin collectors out there?
« on: September 08, 2008, 12:35:30 AM »
Ello all,
I've got a quick question for you today, and as these BBs are filled with some pretty bright people, who seem to know a bit too much...  :D I thought I'd ask here...

As I was walking downtown today, this little thing caught my eye...

A 1896 Morgan Silver Dollar with no mint
It's in fair condition (no an expert at giving grades, so I won't  ;)), and I was wondering if anyone knew it's worth...

Here's a few pics to help you out :D

I think I've been seeing commercials on TV lately about those, I think in the commercial they go for $19.95.  I'm almost positive about it because I can hear the announcers voice now saying "A 1896 Morgan Silver".

$10-20 even though you might see some selling for a lot more (I said selling not moving). There are a lot of them out there.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

I collect military challenge coins. Have some pretty interesting ones in my collection, but I don't collect actual currency coins.

I just look for silver quarters, those are the ones minted in 1964 and back.  They are 95% pure silver and 5% copper. You will be able to pick them out of regular quarters by their color and how they sound when you shake them in your hand (that only works if you grab a handful of quartars).

My .02 cents,
Arian

The Morgan Dollar is a silver United States dollar coin. The dollars were minted from 1878 to 1904 and again for one more year in 1921. The Morgan Dollar is named after its designer, George T. Morgan, who designed the obverse and reverse of the coin. Morgan's monogram appears near Lady Liberty's neck on the obverse. The dollar was authorized by the Bland-Allison Act of 1878. It has a fineness of .900, giving a total silver content of 0.77344 troy ounces (24.057 grams) per coin.
