Palin was baptized Roman Catholic as a newborn. She was then baptized in a Pentecostal Assemblies of God church as a teen and attended that church until six years ago, when she and her family adopted a different home church, an independent evangelical church.

No facts in the Rumor Mill please.   :uhoh

Seriously, why would it matter if she was still attending the Assembly of God church Skyrock? Did our freedom to worship as we see fit get taken away?

I just thought it was funny, and I do believe the pentecostals I knew, were oppressive towards their women, and several were just down right mean to them.  Just sayin. :aok

I've known people who didn't follow any religion at all that were oppressive towards their women and downright mean to them.  :(

This was church supported.  Down here you can tell pentecostals womenn by their wearing full dress, and absolutely no skin showing, also can't have short hair, and not allowed to talk(in depth) to man other than husband.  I am going to step out of this thread, I just thought it was funny that the reps jumped on the muslim thing with the dem and then find out she's been pentecostal.  Where I am from, they are on the same level.

Oddly enough, for all that repression she is the governor of the State of Alaska, the nominated vice president of the Republican party, and married to what appears to be a stay-at-home husband. Apparently the easy stereotypes do not apply in this case, though I know CNN is hammering the fear by pointing out her personal beliefs and not noting how they have remained far more personal than policy.

As much as I would hate someone trying to aggressively prostelyze private religious convictions from the executive branch and aggressively working to legislatively bring the heathens into the fold, I personally don't really hate or look down on the religious simply because of their beliefs.

This does it for me in that regard, apparently reinforced by her legislative and leadership history. As noted she states the following, and the record seems to support it:

Quote
Palin opposes abortion and gay marriage. But in December 2006, she told The Associated Press that her stances on certain lightning-rod issues would not necessarily translate into public policy.

"I've honestly answered the questions on what my personal views are on things like abortion and a lot of controversial issues," she said. "I won't hesitate to answer those questions about what my personal views are, but I am not one to be out there preaching and forcing my views on anyone else."

You obviously don't know any pentecostals.

I suspect by pentecostal you mean a denomination and not the movement. Assemblies of God vary widely in their practices and it should not be confused with the Pentecostal denomination. I do in fact know people from both. Claiming Palin is anti-womens rights is ludicrous and reveals desperation.

I grew up pentecostal but haven't been to a church is years.  An ultra-conservative religion (too much so for my conservative self), it has it's own factions and I would say wouldn't be as unified as larger other denominations.  One pastor/preacher can be quite different that another pastor/preacher from a church in a different town.  A vast majority of regular members in the churches I attended spoke in tongues and I've done it myself.  It's quite the experience to say the least.

I don't view them any different than Joe Catholic or Cathy Baptist and don’t think they should be viewed as wierdos or quacks.

I’ll leave it at that before this thread gets out of hand.

Please see the 20 "Obama is a muslim" threads on this board and post your comment there too

(actually Elfie- I know you're a level headed guy and most likely already wrote something to that extent elsewhere... I just wish more people could apply that logic both ways.  Anyway, just to be clear... i'm not making a dig at you.)

I hate to disagree but I think the fundamentalist baptists that worship with rattlesnakes and copperheads are the muslim branch of the christian faith. King David danced in the streets just like pentecostals and their form of worship has a lot of history behind it. But rattlesnakes?

Hey they only bite you if you aren't a believer..  :D

Unfortunately not everyone does agree and one of those people happens to be a current VP pick.

Just for the record, I have actually attended the following churches in Wasilla Alaska:

First Presbyterian Church (parents' church)

Sacred Heart Catholic Church (brother's family's church)

And once, just for yucks:
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - Bogard Road Parish (friend's church)
