North Korea Might See Freedom!!!!
« on: September 09, 2008, 05:29:11 PM »
Is it possible?

What about if Kim dies?

Rumor has it he had a severe stroke August 14.  That was before they announced that the atomic plant they "blew up" was being reconstructed to build another bomb.

The timeline seems messed up here.

First there will be a revolution then freedom. Always seems to work that way. Those folks are starving! Don't think they can mount much of a charge with out outside help. Maybe from South Korea.

IF Kim dies (I'm sure he's spending so much on his personal health care right now, that 2 or 3 N.Korean towns' are going to starve this winter) There will more than likely be some lackey or hanger-on that jumps up and takes the reigns while their still warm...It's too tempting for any unscrupulous individual, because the N.Korean gov't. is set up as something that one man could exploit.

So...um...I take it that...Kim  Jong is ILL?  (pun intended)

Sounds like a lot of prayers are being answered.  I wonder if ANYONE will shed a tear if he dies.

It would be a pity if the greatest golfer to ever live dies. I think he has the (unofficial) world record for lifetime hole-in-ones.

He also has the record for most creative cheats at golf being only slightly ahead of Bill Clinton.  :D

No surprise.

The next heir will be Gim Jeong-cheol or Gim Pyeong-il.

I wouldn't be surprised to see China intervene if Kim dies under the claim to preserve stability in the region.

It will be interesting to see how the power play runs. There are the military folks who want to maintain their position. There are the family members who will want to maintain their lifestyle as well as the party elite who have the same interest. No matter who takes over they will have a bag of cats to deal with given the conditiojn the country is in.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

When Gim Il-seong fell ill in the 90's, people also hoped that the nation would change under the son, Gim Jeong-Il. After Gim Il-seong died in 1994, people hoped that Gim Jeong-il would be incompetent, and the regime would fall apart (much like how people hope that Castro's Cuba reign would fall apart when he dies).

Fast forward 14 years, and North Korea's regime is still ongoing after the world's first hereditary Communist hand-over. The difference this time is that Gim Jeong-il has not named a successor as of yet. We knew that Gim Jeong-il would take over from his father, much like we know that Raul Castro would take over from his brother Fidel.

Gim Jeong-il has 3 sons. The eldest, Gim Jeong-nam, was thought to be the successor, but events may have lead up to the point where he is no longer considered the heir apparent. Gim Jeong-nam has been reported (everything denied by the North Korean government of course) covertly in Japan a few times. One time, he was actually caught with a forged Dominican Republic passport, and deported out of Japan. Other times, he has been reported to be seen with upscale escort girls in Japan.

He has also been reported to be living in Macau with his family for a few years until 2007, spending a lot of time gambling in the city's growing casino industry.

I've read that Gim Jeong-nam is back in the consideration as the successor, and who knows. Gim Jeong-il himself was supposedly quite the party boy before he himself became leader. It wasn't until Gim Jeong-il assumed leadership that he supposedly really settle down.

But, it's the second son, Gim Jeong-cheol (the eldest son of Gim Jeong-il's favorite wife) who is the rival heir. And he has the backing of North Korea's army.

If I was a South Korean I sure as hell wouldnt want reunification. 22 million freeloaders come streaming south. Was bad enough in Germany, they lived close to 50 years in a workers paradise, then expected me to pay for them for it

That might be a bit problematic... It's part of Korea. The North and the South started kickin the crap outta each other in the late 40's, and AFAIK the Korean War was never resolved. That pretty much leaves South Korea with 'Dibs'. ;)
