OPEC reduces output that OPEC is reducing output
« on: September 10, 2008, 12:54:01 PM »
I read that opec is cutting output to prop up crude oil prices.
It seems to me that they cant afford the USA reducing our use, which we were forced to do because of the price.
I think we are on the right track as a country by voluntarily reducing our driving when possible, while still working to develop oil independence through renewables and domestic sources.

We need to continue to reduce driving to necessary use only, stay home more frequently, and commute together when possible.

If we voluntarily are able to reduce use and develop our own resources, we can break OPEC or simply render them ineffective and then they will begin to break apart.

This is a good start: http://www.pickensplan.com/theplan/

I'm doing my part. Sold my F250 HD 4x4 and camper. Best mileage I got was 8 mpg. Now I'm the proud owner of a Fleetwood Jamboree 27 ft. motorhome that gets 10.5 mpg!  :salute

OPEC isn't breaking apart anytime soon.  The less oil we use, the less they'll produce and keep the cost of oil where they want it really.

Exactly, they want to keep it above a $100 a barrel so they can keep building:

I think that's why Mr.Bird Manure stated we need to further develop our own energy sources while reducing our usage. I'd like to add that we should also be looking at alternative fuels and technology. I really believe we're only about 10 years away from busting Saudi balls. :)

i'm sorta doing my part by driving my geo rather than my dakota, but i'm buying a tow truck that'll be lucky to get 10mpg with its 460 engine.

Heh! I sold a 460 and bought a 460! Difference is, one was 4x4, thus the 1.5 mpg difference. Seriously, we only put about 2k a year on it. Same will apply to the new global warmer.

Wife get 24 mpg with her 'Stang and I get 21 with my FJ. Works for us! She takes the train to work so her drive is short (6 miles) I work 4x10 schedule and virtual 50% of the time. Certainly cuts down on the commute!

I really believe we're only about 10 years away from busting Saudi balls. :)

In ten years the Saudis will just be further reducing their output to keep oil at a price they like, and selling it to different consumers (think India and China).  If they (India and China) continue to grow into industrial societies at their present rates, they will out consume our intake of oil by far.

We are far from 10 years away from alternative energy sources making us oil independent.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

Synthetic fuel from coal, we already know how to do it, just need the refineries. We also have more coal than Saudi Arabia has oil.

"Guano (from the Quechua 'wanu', via Spanish) is the feces of seabirds, bats, and seals. The word "guano" originates from the Quichua language of the Inca civilization and means "the droppings of sea birds". Incas collected guano from the coast of Peru for use as soil enricher. The Incas assigned great value to guano, restricting access to it and punishing any disturbance to the birds with death.[3]

And then you can go into the Tar Sands as well.  And I've heard the lines that the US has enough coal to power the country for 100-200 years, but I wonder are they including all the coal deposits in the US since some cannot be used since of high sulfur content (Illinois mines comes to mind).
