geesh, anyone else notice that not two of them seem to be wearing the same uniform?  No wonder they got their butts wooped....that's a big indicator of readiness right there.

It's a war.  War is disturbing.  We Americans like to think that we can have clean war where we do not have to look at the pictures.

It is part of what is wrong with this country.

Apparently, one in five people in the world are Chinese. And there are five people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother, Colin. Or my younger brother, Ho-Chan-Chu. But I think it's Colin. - Tim Vine.

Yup... I was really surprised by the variety... I was expecting some old US and Russian camouflage... but I saw what looked to be Flecktarn and a modern digital pattern as well.

you guys are not serious?  Those pics were no more disturbing than ANY other pic from ANY other event where humans tear each other apart with lead projectiles, metal fragments, and concussive explosions.  These pics are are common war pics.

Ive seen thousands of these type of war pics starting from the American Civil War and going all the way to Iraq and Afghanistan.  Everything in between!  As a kid these things disturbed the hell out of me.  Today its just so much more dense evidence on the historical record of the human brutality.  Its built into our very tightest core instinct.

Having said that I would make two observations:  Human beings have a hell of a long ways to go towards being truly worthwhile contributors to the larger framework of existence, but it is an achievable possibility.  And, that as human beings, we need to be sure that self determination and freedom of thought are protected to the very end.  Its a destiny we can make for ouselves if we protect and defend our capacity to contribute for the better.

Jeeze....time for another martini  :lol

Those pics didn't bother me, except for the one where the human remains were so burnt and melted that it looked like a black octopus.

It's become exactly what gov't. PR and the Media have wanted it to...a harmless, detached experience that happens' thousands of miles away from our TV screen. We see some Thermal/Nightvision camera footage that shows green blur explosions on green blur objects, or burned-out vehicles in the desert.

It is war. It is horrible. Americans have died in the exact same ways' as the people in that footage from Georgia. It's not shown, most likely for political expediency.

there is a furious and often vindictive effort ongoing by the defense department to not show footage in the American media of US war casualties.

Seconded.  And to think that on the scale of things, this was a relatively 'small' war...

No such thing as a small war.

Agreed. Look up Eisenhower's speech to america where he warn american citizens about the Military-Industrial Complex.

To think that Russia would want to integrate their economy with the western? Hah! The Russians want to build their own empire and want as little as possible to do with the west. This is why we're heading fast downhill to WW3, western super-capitalists can't accept a Russia with a mind of it's own. Forget the people, they have no say in the matter, not in the west nor in Russia. This was the main reason why the Soviet Union was toppled, the powers that be thought they could integrate them with the capitalist economies of the west, thus expand their influence and power into Russia. Well, the russians always wanted to do things differently, and so they still do. Thus, we're going downhill fast... war is always good for the economy, people die but who cares as long as there are billions to be made.

Read some history instead of the propaganda bull**** they call news these days. The Soviet Union came to be only because a British banker was "kind enough" to donate some money to the bolsheviks, effectively funding the entire revolution.

Nothing disturbing with the pictures posted, just business as usual. It's the world we live in, it happens every day.

Exactly why I've not "protected" my kids by not showing them pictures of stuff like this.
I've always wanted them to know exactly what war is.
Particularly in light of the games we play.

Based on the our cry against the current war both prior and since.
I dont think Americans like to think we can have a clean war.
Americans like to think we can have a quick war.
Where we can turn on our TVs at prime time every night for a few days like a miniseries and turn it off at the end of the week when the war is over.

I also think we (the average American public) got spoiled in our last few engagements, grenada, Panama, And Gulf War I.
And the public has disillusioned itself into thinking we can not only have a quick war. But one in which we can wage war and only have a casualty list in the tens and not hundreds or thousands.

But Im looking at picture #55 of this guy STANDING there with that wound and I cant help but think of a caption this of
"Its only a flesh wound"

Man. Thats gotta be one tough SOB

Also I cant help but think of the great propagandist, Baroda when I look at the buildings, and cars, and civilians.
And just how WELL they were doing under the Soviet Union.

I was thinking of that too Drediock, quite a lucky guy, could have took his throat out. :uhoh

About not showing such pictures in the news in USA, I'm pretty convinced that there's a link between the willingness of Americans to go to war, compared to the relectance of Europeans. We do show thoses on the news. (I don't mean that as a criticisum, it's a observation).
