Nah, the Helldiver wasn't all that great of a plane.  In fact, the crews were actually asked not to dive bomb because of it's structural weaknesses (kinda defies the point, doesn't it?).  There are pictures of Helldivers that actually lost their entire tail structure after landing on a carrier... :confused:

Plus, we have the SBD and TBM, why do we need another hardly flown aircraft?

Those were in earlier versions of the SB2C, by the time the -4 variant was released, majority of the problems that plagued the earlier versions were corrected.  The SB2C-4 was actually a decent dive bomber but the problems of the older versions are what most people remember and quote.
