Storm Of Aces -- Anybody tried this?

I have been casually watching the progress on this game for a while.  Apparently they are up and running now.  Just curious if anyone has any experience with it.  At $5/mo it wouldn't break the bank.  In the mid 90's, I greatly enjoyed Red Baron II 3D online.  I wouldn't mind taking out a Spad 13 once again.

Sorry but not impressed in the least :(...For 5 dollars it might be good while just wanting to blow stuff up or shoot but other than that not impressed. Would love to see a WWI flight sim on the level of AHII.

So you're speaking from first hand experience here?  Do tell!

Well duh!  Isn't that kinda obvious?  What facts do you have that disqualifies SOA?

Aren't these the same guys that did Fighter Ace or at least had a hand in developing it?

Sorry Homeboy wasn't trying to be offense...after playin games like AHII and Falcon4.0 among other I just find this game a little "Childish"...Reminds me of an updated version an Apple EE game called funny enough "Red Baron" What I mean by that is very simplistic controls, simplistic flight model and graphics. Perhaps the release version of the game will be a little better but as far the Beta version it just doesn't do it for me. I will keep an eye on this game because for all of it's simplicity that is the main thing it has in it's corner. Anyone who has never played a realistic sim will probably be able to advance relatively quickly in this type of game without having to put in the time to learn the MANY MANY different planes such as in AHII or the ridiculously long 15 minute start-up procedures associated with games such as Falcon 4.0. Again I meant no offense and was not flaming. Sorry for the misunderstanding, perhaps I should have put more thought into my response.  :aok

Yes, I believe you're right ack-ack.  I thought since they are developing the game as an mmolg, it might be worth checking out.  Probably just wishful thinking on my part.  In 1999, the Simguild guys (the folks who developed BOB) were developing Flying Circus.   Lots of the WB guys were playing it.  It was free for six months (I believe) and was very promising.  They finally folded and as far as I know, no one has picked up the WW1 genre since.  It's a real shame too as they put a lot of effort in the flight engine and it was beginning to get some attention.

GrimWulf:
No harm done.  Sorry I responded harshly.  Didn't mean to.  I just know these developers are taking huge risks in developing this stuff and if we just blow them all off without even checking them out, they'll just disappear all together.  I know you don't want that anymore than I do.  It goes without saying (I hope) that I agree with you that AH2 is in a class by itself but we should all want as much competition as can reasonably exist.

I've been working the last four years on a Civil War flight sim.

You'll be able to change altitude in your observation balloon and everything.

FA 3 -3.5 game engine  perhaps ?? ... not very good latency coding and the arena's are known for zoom dots and other things that hurt gameplay .

Fighter Ace 2.5 was the best anyhow.

Fighter Ace 3 is alright, I play it and it is much like WarBirds. The difference is, the cockpit views are awful, so you're stuck with just a clear screen and a crossair in it.

The fights are pretty good, but it's only about the size of WarBirds when it comes to players. The only thing that FA3 beats AHII at is the way the outside of airplanes look, but the way they are made, when you go into cockpit view, the wings and stuff look like crud.

FA3 = 7 out of 10
AHII = 11 out of 10
WB = 9 out of 10

Edit check this out:

You can see what planes they have and stuff.

 I tried FA a few years ago. Wasn't worth any cost. Probably wouldn't play it if it was free.

But what do I know I'm not addicted. I have subscriptions to both Warbirds and AH. (and Red Baron 2). I can quit anytime. Ya that's the ticket! Now wheres that joystick?
