Oh HTC dudes,

Before I get started If I've over looked this in the Frontend, then nevermind and sorry for taking up your time.

I can't hear any outside planes! I've avoided 2 midairs with fellow Knights just barely.

Yesterday, after tangling with 5 bogies and flying back to refuel. I was level and typing to my countrymen the situation, when I saw tracers and down I went. Yes it was bad SA on my part, I won't be typing no more.

Is there a sound function for outside aircraft sound? If not

WE NEED IT BADLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it realistic to hear outside planes?

And just how does a horse hold a joystick?!

It's not. At all.
Unless your buzzed by one at about 25 above your cockpit or you're sitting on the runway with your cockpit open and your own engine off.

Good question, Ive been in a Small aircraft and have heard other planes, I've been in large aircraft and not.
As is AW3, you have a setting in sound from 0-3000 yards, as the plane gets closer, the sound gets louder.
I really hadn't thought about if your own engine would drown out the outers.

The Mare holds the joystick.... I fly with a bit in me mouth!

When I flew in the AT-6 Texan, I couldn't hear my own voice if it wasn't for the headset/intercom system.

And it only has about a 600 hp engine, triple the noise and I would be very suprised if you can hear other aircraft.

A 1500-2000hp warbirds engine with open exhaust rumbling away is alot different from a smal/light aircrafts engine running.
As for AW3 aircraft sounds? I've always found it to be a 'gaming' gimmick and I've always turned them off to save the frame rate/cpu hit.
If you don't seem em? One should be shot down by them
